Trouble Peeing???

Well last night was not much different... he did have one good pee outside and then he peed twice inside (don't know why. He's been doing good lately). Well this morning I woke up at 3 to take him out and he came out and just sat in the living room... he didn't want to go. So I carried him out and he went a little bit (not much). Then I got up at 6:45 and took him out again and he didn't doa thing. I figured it was because he just went at 3 and he hadn't drank much so I didn't worry too much. Well i got his food out and he usually is tearing at the bag but today he just sat and looked at me. I carried him to the food and he sniffed it and the water and turned away and laid down. I knew something was wrong and I picked him up and there was a bad smell. I smelled his back and it just smelled like shampoo and puppy but I realized it was coming from his ears. I lifted them up and took a wiff and they smelled bad. Well I read in Boxers for Dummies that any time a foul smell comes from the ears that I should call the vet so I did and now we are waiting to get in. She's booked solid right now and said she would get me in if there was a cancellation. That's where I stand right now.

That sounds like a yeast infection. While you're waiting to get him to a vet, you could clean his ears out (gently! they will hurt) with green tea. Just brew the tea, let it cool, then use a cotton ball or pad soaked in the tea to gently clean his ears out.

You could then actually use some plain natural yoghurt on them. The sort that has probiotics like acidophillous and lactobacillous cultures (and NO sugar). Lots of people do that to treat yeast infections, including their own. He can have it orally too, of course.

Sounds like this is a dog that needs regular ear cleaning. How often do you do that?

You should probably also take a look at his food. If he's eating something that contains any form of wheat, corn, beet pulp, or molasses (check any treats) then it would be wise to ditch that for something better. Brewers yeast could be a problem also.

Thanks! How long should I wait on the vet before I decide to call another one. Also, about the wheat, beet pulp, and brewer's yeast and stuff... I give him Iams puppy treats that have all of that. The ingredients are as follows:

Ingredients:
Wheat Flour, Chicken By-Product Meal, Poultry Fat (preserved with BHA), Dried Beet Pulp (sugar removed), Poultry Digest, Brewers Dried Yeast, Vitamins and Minerals.
*From the Iams Puppy Biscuits box.

Maybe I should try a different treat??? Any suggestions? As far as food, I feed him Nutro ultra right now. I was mixing it with Iams puppy food about 50/50 and then 75/25 and now 100% Nutro Ultra. Ever since I got to 100% Nutro he hasn't been very interested in it.

Nutro Ultra does make treats that go with the food. I would suggest any natural treat.... Iams is no good.....

Also, if he is having accidents in the house and doesn't normally, another sign of a possible UTI, or bladder infection. Did you take him to the vet? I don't know if I missed that part, I know you said something about waiting for the vet before you call another????

Wellness also makes treats that go with the food.

Oh yes - definitely ditch those treats. Aside even from the allergy issues, the preservative BHA is carcinogenic. It's banned in the human food chain, I believe, and you won't find that in good quality dog foods either. Far better to buy different treats, or make your own, than give something likely to end in cancer ;)

Well I'm not so sure he likes the Nutro Ultra... once we quit mixing it with the Iams he lost interest. But that's about the time he started acting weird anyway so maybe it's because he's sick. Anyway, I've thougha bout Chicken Soup. Do I need to wean him off the Nutro or mix Chicken Soup with the Iams or just go straight to the Iams? Here's te schedule so far:

Week 1 at my house: Mix 75% Iams with 25% Nutro and then 50/50 a couple days after.
Week2: 75%Nutro and 25% Iams.
Week 3: 80%Nutro and 20%Iams and now 100% Nutro.
I'm low on Nutro (small bag) and he doesn't seem to like it too much, so how do I introduce Chicken Soup?

By the way... I'm still waiting on the vet to call and I am at work so I don't know how he's doing.

If you've got to 100% Nutro now, just wean him onto Chicken Soup the same way - by mixing. There's no point in adding in any Iams, since he's been weaned off that now.

Good choice, btw :) Chicken Soup is a very good quality food.

What treats do you guys feed your boxers? I looked at the only pet store in my area and they have no wellness treats. They do have Nutro Ultra but the first ingredient is again Wheat Flour... as most of the treats I looked at have.
