Boxer Booster
Hi everyone!
We had an interesting trip to the dog park yesterday... It wasn't perfect and it wasn't horrible. That's why I say interesting.
The great parts:
It was a gorgeous, sunny 43 degree day!!
All the snow!! Jayda had SO much fun running around in it and playing with the other dogs. We hadn't been to the park in over a month and this was the icing for her I think...
There were three other boxers that came by! Two females, 4 and 6 yrs, and one male, a rescue of 8 yrs old. They were so sweet. And we used to think Jayda was on the small side for a boxer but she was the same size as these three. They were more filled out since they were older but they were the same height. They were so pretty. One of them just leaned on us to get some loving. It was awesome.
All the dogs there were good dogs and really there were no problems with any of them being aggressive.
The not-so-great parts:
All the snow... It made Jayda's toenail beds bleed. Another dog owner said this happens when snow crystals jam inbetween the toes. So I think I'll go check out that musher's wax(?) and see if that helps for next time.
There was a small child there and Jayda could reach his face. The first time Jayda jumped up to lick his face I corrected her and she stopped. After 30 min went by and more dogs showed up, I turned my back for a second and she did it again! I missed the correction and the lady ended up leaving. I felt really, really bad, but learned a lesson in return. Never take your eye off your pup, period. Even for a second... And even if s/he is still a puppy. With all the new dogs coming in I tend to want to check them all out. So long story short... I felt really bad about it and apologized to the lady. Jayda jumps up and we are working on it. But the little boys face was an easy-to-kiss target. I apologized and made a mental note about Jayda and little kids.
The male boxer there was not neutered and a 6 month old female Italian mastiff was also not spayed. Again long story short, the male was attracted to the female and tried to hump her every second he could get. The owner did not try to keep him away from her and the mastiff's owner ended up leaving.
So all in all it was an interesting day at the park. But we'll definitely go again because Jayda had one of the best days in her entire little life!!

. If you go into a dog park you have to expect some boxer kisses. I think they understood.
