trimming whiskers

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this question. This may be an odd question, but i got into a minor fun argument with my fiance the other day about trimming Melkys whiskers. He told me NO NO NO, but i don't see the harm in it? I would love to see what everyone else thinks. Is this a bad thing to do? Can it harm him in anyway?

That is what my fiance said that they are used as sensors and I didn't want to trim the whiskers by his mouth, it was more under his chin! He had this really long one under his chin and i dont know, it was driving me crazy

I know now that you shouldn't trim them and I will not!

I am not laughing at you but could see where you might consider the thought.
My pup just started getting her whiskers in and they at first felt like sharp stabbing stubble's when I would kiss her smoosh. After a week or so and they got a bit longer they have softened up.
Leave them be! They serve a good purpose.

Maybe she's talking about chin hairs, not the actual whiskers that are growing out of her muzzle. Dino has some long white-ish hairs growing out of his chin that are pretty funny looking. But I do agree - don't cut the muzzle whiskers.

If you are talking about the long, stiff, whiskers that are right under then chin then, no, don't cut them. But if you are talking about long, rouge, soft fur/hairs then you can trim those without a problem.

I've trimmed my guys whiskers, in preparation for the show ring, for years. When their show career is over, I don't bother anymore. I have seen absolutely no difference in them being shaved or not.

The only thing I notice, is when the whiskers are growing out, they really can poke you when kissing.
