Ok, Kaybie has been struggling with allergies and I have since changed her food from Canidae to SG Mmillenia Beef and Barley. Anyways, her feet seem to be clearing up (but I have no idea if that is from a spray the vet gave me or from the food change). Since the food change, I have eliminated all extras including treats. My question is this, assuming the food change has worked, what can I use for treats? I suspect that chicken is what she is allergic to. Are there any treats that have the same ingredients as the SG Mmillenia? I would make homemade treats but those would only last a few days and I would like to be able to buy a bag/box of treats that would last a while. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I just looked on the Solid Gold website and they make beef jerkey treats that might be ok, but I'm not sure if I can buy those anywhere around me. The place that I buy their food doesn't carry their treats.

Ok, I just called the place I buy her food and it turns out they do carry those beef jerky treats. So I do have the options of buying those but I compared the ingredients in them to the Mmillenia and they are both beef but have other ingredients. Do you think these would be ok?

I think Cornelus is allergic to chicken as well. I found Mother Nature Beef Stew treats and he seems to do well on it. I just found the ingredients online but it has chicken fat in it. Maybe someone can tell us if this would be OK to feed ...

Ground Whole Wheat
Beef
Carrots
Potatoes
Peas
Chicken Fat
Ground Barley
Sea Salt

You could cut up some beef livers and bake them on a cookie sheet at about 350 degrees and just keep an eye on them so they don't totally dry up. I've done this for Beasley for years since he cannot tolerate grains, so many of the commercial treats are out of the question for us - although it's not as hard as it used to be to find 'alternative treats'. Natural Balance has a potato & duck treat that is crunchy and Beasley liks those real well. Also, Wellness has come out with some grain free treats (soft jerky bits) called PURE REWARDS and there are several flavors that are 'non-chicken', including beef, venison, and a venison-salmon combo. If you want to check ingredients further, they have a website: http://www.oldmotherhubbard.com/wellness/dog_wellness_treats_pure_rewards.html

Hope this info is helpful for you!

I looked at the beef treats from Wellness and they look good as well. I'm pretty sure my local store sells them too! Thanks! I'll have to give those a try!

The wellness treats still include wheat, I believe.

I'd go for dried chicken or beef liver, personally. You can buy it in tubs at the store. My Conner can't tolerate ANYTHING (no kibble at all) but he can handle beef liver treats.

Where can you buy the beef liver treats in a tub? I would love to get something like this. Do you know if they are a certain brand? Thanks.

A great treat you could give your dog is an ice cube! Our neighbor has a wheaton terrier with IBS and it cannot have treats so , they give him ice. We started this with our dogs and they come flying when they hear the ice maker! Plus, it ia an inexpensive treat.

Kaybie's mom-
I just rotated my poultry allergic boxer boy from wellness lamb (which he liked okay and was on for over a year) to the mmilenia beef and barley and he goes bonkers for it--hope your guy is liking it too. The first week he had a few odd bumps on him but didn't seem itchy so I think it's working.
Natural balance has a beef log (for lack of a better description) that doesn't contain poultry and my guy likes a lot. Good luck!
