treat on the nose trick?

Update:

Its been a couple days and Iv had a chance to try out my suggestion, and youll be happy to know Dorian has made giant progress, he cought a treat off his nose three times tonight! :D The passed couple days Iv been teaching him to just strickly catch something in his mouth and tonight I combined them. Took a bit of coaxing, he would try for it and miss, I wouldnt give him the treat but I had to praise him for the effort and let him know he was on the right track, if I didnt he would just sit there looking at me with the treat on his nose when I gave him the "catch" command as if to say "Now what?" Hope anyone else trying to do this with their dogs has as much success as I did!!

I will definitely have to keep at it, and try your suggestion. I had to laugh at first though, because the other day I DID try and toss Boozer a treat (only a couple times though).....didn't even ATTEMPT to open his mouth!! :-D I threw it, he looked down at it, looked up at me like "geez aren't YOU rude!" picked it up and went in the other room to eat it

Since it worked for you though, I'm not going to give up on that. Thanks for the input! I'll let you know how it goes!

How do you get them to hold it on their nose in the first place??? I cannot get this!

I had to put one hand under his chin and put the treat on his nose with the other hand, then tell him to stay and try taking my hand away. If he droped it he didnt get the treat and we would try it again, and just kept at it this way untill he got the idea. Then I would priase him and give him the treat when he did it.

Im going to try that tonite, ive spent the last 4 nights teaching him to leave a treat on the floor alone. hope fully its a smooth transition onto his nose, but i doubt it.

Grace is the only one that will let anything sit on her nose. She this with a tennis ball. You can put the ball on her nose, she will hold it there (kinda sits in the 'scoop' part of her nose). You say 'okay' she tosses the ball in the air and catches it
