Last week I made an appointment for Travis to be neutered and tomorrow is the day he goes in. I really feel badly that I am doing this to him although I know it NEEDS to be done as Keisha could go into heat anytime, and I don't want to risk any inbred puppies. I have talked to my vet about ACE and she agreed that because of a history of problems with ace in his line that it shouldn't be used in his case. When I go in tomorrow morning they will make a note of it on his file. I feel that he will be in very good hands while at the vets. They are so good with the animals there.
I just feel so badly that he has to be away from home overnight and he will be tender for a while. My poor baby boy. :(
I guess I just needed to "talk" - thanks everyone for listening.

I felt really bad about Oscar neutered also. like you said, just the fact of him being away from home and being sore from the surgery. Oscar had cryptorchidism (one undescended testicle) so we had no choice but to get him fixed. The undescended testicle could have turned cancerous if it wasn't taken care of. He will be just fine though...just remember to check his stitches. Oscar licked his and a couple of them got all red and inflamed....he had to wear a halo-thing for about 3 or 4 days. I really felt sorry for him then, he was bumping into everything. Believe me when I say that after a week or so neither you or Travis will ever know that he had the surgery. I wish you both luck...you'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for the kind words Jen- I know it will be alright - but I do feel the guilt.
I would like Keisha to have one more litter of pups (2 litters total)and then I plan to have her spayed. The breeder has already picked the stud for the next litter.

Everything will be fine, do one thing for me though, make sure you actually see them writing NO ACE on your dogs chart. When I had Athena spayed they tried to pull a fast one on me and not abide by my wishes. My Samson breezed right through his neuter, I didn't have to leave him overnight though, just dropped him off at 7 and picked him up by 5, I guess vets all do things different. I have not regreted having him neutered, the benefits outweigh everything else.

Someone please explain to me WHY we have to beg OUR vets to not use ace???? I mean darn it we are paying the bill and its our babies who are at risk.

IM sure Travis will be okay and will just need some extra special loving.

Travis is back home and as crazy as ever. By the way he is acting you would never know that anything had happened. I am so glad that he doesn't seem to be in ANY pain whatsoever. Keisha was moping around, and whining, and wanting extra hugs yesterday when Travis was away. When I brought Travis home they were soooo happy to see each other - Keisha thanked me quite a few times for bringing him back. ;)
By the way he weighed in at 57 lbs.

Did Travis have any pain injection or pain meds after his surgery? Debo is getting neutered Dec 8 and I changed to another vet who included a pain med injection after the surgery in case of any additional pain.

I had my cat neutered at a "chop shop" and he came back all curled up for three days, he wouldn't let anyone near his rear! Funny now, but then the poor cat was in pain, my vet wanted me to bring him in, but he wouldn't let anyone pick him up. :(

I couldn't even think of that happening to Debo.

Bassassboxer: I think they must have givin him something after the surgery because he stayed at the vets overnight. I picked him up at about 10:00 on wednesday morning and he was acting like nothing had happened - kidney beaning and being a crazy pup. It seems like it is alot less painful than I thought - Debo will be fine, don't worry. If you want pain med, just in case - then ask the vet - but it may not be nesessary. Good luck to Debo when the time comes.
