Traveling with boxers
We were lucky enough to be able to take a 5 week vacation over the summer and drove from Arizona to Pennsylvania with a few very out of the way stops. Total time in the car was at least 40 hours each way. Their longest trip was probably about 4 hours prior to the trip so I was very concerned about how they would do on the trip, but they also love the car. If your boxer likes being in the car chances are she will do just fine. A couple of suggestions, we used the "buddy bowl" which is an almost unspillable water dish. (you can freeze it half full of water and then she'll have nice cold water during most of the trip.) We also took a doggie first aid kit, which is almost the same as a human first aid kit (you can look up what to put in it on the internet). I also took along all of their shot records (just in case.) We just stopped every 2-3 hours for a short walk and we didn't have any problems!
I also made sure I had some wet food to put on their usual kibble, b/c they were a bit nervous at each new spot and this encouraged them to eat. Also take along her favorite toys and something that smells familiar may help her not be as nervous in a new house with new people.
The funny thing is that they slept (usually on top of each other) in the car most of the time. Everyone kept asking if we had to medicate them and I had to laugh because I have a great picture of my boy (Jack) using our girl (Maizie) as a pillow and drooling on her. I don't think they could of been more relaxed!
Overall, we enjoyed our vacation more because we had them with us and I'd definately take them again without thinking twice.
Goodluck!
