My wife and I brought home a new pup yesterday that is five weeks old. I know this is a little too soon based on the info ive read but we fell in love with him and the pups were going quickly so we decided to bring him home. Has anyone else gotten a pup this young? any problems? any suggestions on special training for pup this age?

We got our boxer at 5 and a half weeks which I too felt was too young, but we also have another dog and my son has a shepherd pup for her to learn her place and all that good stuff. She is now 15 weeks and we are starting puppy kindergarten this Wednesday so I am really not in a position to give out any tips cause I am learning also. One thing I can say is to start reading and don't stop BW is going to be one of your favorite places to get information, it has answered alot of our questions.....before we even knew to ask them actually. We started training Sadie at six weeks and have not stopped, she is sooo smart, we are quite pleased so good luck to you....Cindy

At this age he is like a new baby
Keep check on every thing from feeding,watering,sleeping to bowel movements.A pup this young can get sick & go down in a hurry if not monitored close,he is in all new surroundings & it will take time for this pup to get adjusted,just like bringing a new baby home.Iwould not worry much about training until 8weeks other than crate training & pups this young require alot of sleep & rest.
