I just signed Urijah ( 9 weeks) up to start his puppy training classes in Jan. 13th after he has had his 2nd shots.

I want to take treats for him as they suggest, can anyone tell me how to make a good chicken or liver dog treat or what kind to buy. All the recipes I have seen online have alot of corn/corn meal in them.

I do not want to give him puppy bones as that is his treat for potty time and I would like to keep training time and potty time separate.

And I think something more nutritious than biscuits is in order, don't want to overload him on junk food ( LOL).

Good for you making your own :) It isn't as simple as store-bought, but very much healthier.

The simplest way to make training treats is just to dice up a grilled chicken breast into little cubes and use those.

If you want something drier/tidier, then you can first cut your chicken or liver (beef liver is easiest) into strips and then bake it till quite dry. You then cut up into little bits. A word of warning on the liver though - the small of baking liver is quite intense and not very pleasant ;) so best done when it is possible to open windows.

If you check the recipes forum, I think you'll find a number of decent treat recipes to choose from.

WOW I have some beef liver in the freezer. I think tomorrow I will put it in my small convection oven, that way I can do it on my patio so the house will not smell. One of the perks of living in Tucson Arizona 75 degrees today.

Thanks for the great ideas, I love this forum except sometimes it gets me confused since there is so much information.

Zara, Nikita, Krazer and Urijah thank you also.
