I have a 9 week old puppy, she is quite wild and wont come to you unless she wants even with treats, shes knows how to sit that was pretty quick, do you thibk the training will sort all that out or will it be too late she can only to training at 12 weeks, i will still keep trying, how does puppy school benefit never tried it before

DEFINITELY YES!

at least for me anyway! :) I taught Sascha to sit, lay and shake on my own, but she's in puppy school now, and it has taught her some stuff, but mostly it's taught me what I need to do to be able to teach her things. I would definitely recommend it.

Also - don't worry about her not being able to come. Recall is extremely important, but it is also a really hard thing to teach, and at only nine weeks, that's probably a hard thing for her to understand.

She's just a baby!

My best advice would be to NOT use the word come unless you can make her come to you. Everytime you use the word come and she goes the other way or holds her ground, you are reinforcing the fact that she only needs to come when she wants to.

YES! Training will sort all of that out. In the States, the class that we usually put our 12 week old pups in teaches some very basic behaviours and is GREAT for puppy socialization. I highly recommend it.

After puppy class, you get into the "real" obedience. And in my opinion, the real fun! As you and your pup learn together, you bond and the rewards are endless.

Keep at it. Enjoy this wild puppy time because, much like children, they grow up way too fast.

Thanks I do love her wild except when she bites, but shes so cute, I am happy she is the way she is, I just get worried I am not doing enough

Training should help. I've already talked to a local trainer about getting Sam into their classes. He's a smart little cookie (already knows sit, down, off, come, up, and give it) and the classes will help us hone his obedience. We're going to start two weeks from now with his training and I'm thrilled.

Try taking your girl when she's a bit older. She's still very young right now and her attention wonders a lot!

obedience training will definitely help teach your dog, and you, the basics of doggie behavior and will assist you in teaching your dog good manners and allow her to live with you peacefully. that 'wildness' you described is most likely due to her young age. ate 9 weeks she is extremely young and is the ideal time for her to begin her training. good luck. ;)

I would definitely take her to puppy school. It is so important for socialization and learning to play nicely with other puppies. If she won't come for treats, maybe you need to try different treats. You need to find something that she will work for.

Good luck!

yes, yes, and YES on puppy classes, in my opinion. It's a fantastic way to give your puppy some socialization with other animals and people. It's also a fantastic way for you to learn how to interact with your puppy and how your puppy thinks. Gives you a great start for later on.

As far as treats.....it's probably not the best to give them, but my dogs go nuts over Fruit Loops cereal. :)

How did you find a trainer??? Sophie is ready for puppy classes, and there are some at Petco and then through the local adult school. Is there a better way to find training???

go down to my post titled "class prices" and the moderator left a great link for finding good trainers. I found a couple of options from the link that sound really good.
