I would suggest a dog training obedience class. It isn't that the videos will have different information, but when you take a class you have an instructor who can act as a really good adviser when things aren't working.

I thought my puppy would be a text book puppy... a dog training video will show you a cute dog being really obedient. But a class is really helpful when your dog doesn't perform like the one in the video or book ;)

I read a ton of puppy training books before bringing my dog home and I was still really happy to have an instructor that I could talk to. Often you're doing things wrong that you would never know on your own. Good luck!

I agree with Northernboxr...a lot of times it is you who makes the mistakes and it is nice to have a trainer there to talk to and give you suggetions on what you are doing wrong :)

I completely agree :) Hands on is the way to go. But I always recommend the Culture Clash by Jean Donaldson

I agree with the other posters who said to bring your boxer to an obedience class. I did with my boxer and it made a world of difference. Just remember to keep up with it after the class is over. Obedience is something that must continue throughout there lives to be effective. (rinse, lather & repeat)

For the housetraining try the "bell training". Hang a set of jingle bells on the door that you take the dog out from. Everytime you take poochy out, ring the bells before you open the door. The dog will soon understand that everytime the bells ring the door opens. Before you know it your dog will be ringing the bells trying to trick you into letting them out just so they can play.

Good luck :)

I'm currently training a 10 week old golden pup, and will start with Lance when he gets home 7/30. Yes, I'm crazy :D

What everyone else has said. Consistency is the key to successful conditioning. That whole Pavlov/BF Skinner stuff is what we're doing with our dogs. Positive reinforcement works much better than punishment. Also having a strong voice helps them understand where they fit in the pack. You want to be the alpha in the relationship. I've used clicker training as well with some good success, especially getting him to come when called. They tend to have selective hearing :)

Good luck.
