Toxcicia

Blue was just diagnosed with toxcicia (sp?). THe vet says it is common in puppies. Anyone know anything about this? He was put on medicine.

My puppy Daisy had it when we first brought her home. The vet put her on some Antibiotics and within a few days she was fine. I was told that it sometimes happens to some puppies of larger litters. Daisy came from a litter of 9 and she was the runt. None of the other puppies had it, just her.

Do you mean coccidia? If so, they are small protozoans (one-celled organisms) in the intestinal tract and antibiotics do nothing for it. The medicine given to treat this is generally Albon, and given for several days. This is contagious to other dogs.
