Has anyone have any experience with their dog being allergic to TOTW pacific.. the fish one?

Tyson have been on this for few months now, we switched him over from Royal Canin as he wasn't taken it well - loose stools and constant pooping. Also we wanted to give him premium quality food and people seem to have great feedback on that brand. He is currently 8 months. He was fine with the food, taken it well but lately his stools are loose like when he was with Royal Canin and sometimes there will be couple droplets of blood. We went to see the vet about it and he said it could do with him not takin/digesting it well something like that. we got told to just feed him that for a whole month not giving him any treats etc so we can see if its his main food that is causing it. We have no see he has little spots/scabs like on his lower front body.. they look like allergies spots. He is eating 3 in a half cups a day and he still poops a lot but lately he doesn't poop till mid day. we usually take him out an hour after hes feed ( hes fed at 7 in the morn).

We are going to try acana now, is that a better option for him? its so hard to find the right food for him

thanks

Are you feeding the entire 3.5 cups at one feeding at 7am?
If so the loose stool issues could easily be that he is just taking in too much food at once. If this is the case try feeding two meals a day. Split the 3.5 cups into two feedings (am and pm). At minimum it is worth a try and you might see positive results. For a typical Boxer 3.5 cups of food at once seems like a lot for one meal, especially a healthier version like TOTW.
I'd not specifically keep changing foods only to keep reaching the same results if he was fine eating it initially.
The spots on him could just be coincidental and not food related (of course they could be) but you'd think it would have showed up when it was first introduced if there was an issue directly related to the food.

sorry i meant we feed him 3 cups a day, splitting them between morning and evening. We have still got a full bag.. should we try to finish it off and see? maybe splitting it up to 3 times a day rather than 2 and see how it goes?

It might be that Tyson is getting too much food. Overfeeding can cause loose stools.

How much does Tyson weigh?

What tests did the vet run at your visit?

It is 3.5 measuring cups per day that he's getting, correct? If so I'd try reducing that to 3 cups, split between two feedings. I don't think it's necessary to feed more often than twice daily for a dog older than 6 months. Do that and if it's not helping after a couple of weeks then maybe you could try something else.

Another thought... you mentioned that you have a full bag of TOTW now... but he's been doing fine on it for months... maybe there's something about this particular bag that is not agreeing with Tyson. Maybe the bag you have now is simply a "bad batch" of food. It does happen sometimes.

I would agree that he may be getting too much food. My boy is 67 pounds, very active and eats 2 1/2 cups per day of TOTW Pacific Stream (so 1 1/4 cups twice a day). I have found that feeding according to the guidelines on the bag is typically overfeeding, so you may want to reduce the amount of food by 1/4-1/2 cup per day and see if that makes any difference (especially if he's going quite a few times a day).

Prozyme may also help.

Good luck.

He is getting full 3 cups a day, splitting it to 1 1/2 in the morning and evening.

im not sure what he weighs, i think he could be 20 kilos which about 44 pounds but dont quote me on it as i think i am wrong. We haven't done any tests as the vet told us to cut out any snacks/treats in take and feed him just his meals so we can eliminate if it is his food that is causing his loose stools. I didn't think he was too helpful at the time but we are taking him to the vet on saturday and see what the other vet says. Hopefully maybe get some tests and worming tablets as i think he is due one.

I will reduce it to 1/2 cup less and see from there, thanks for the advice!
