Well my little Justice has her first injury (at least we made it a year). Some how she tore a chunk (about the size of the tip of my pinky finger) off her pad on her front paw (the "palm" if you will). She either caught it on the fence (she jumps to peek in on our neighbors) or gauged it when she ran in and slipped on our icy porch (just like the kids, they don't listen when we tell them to slow down). It wasn't gushing blood but bleeding well enough to leave a pretty red trail through the house, so I did some at home care. I put on some dermoplast, then gauze, then that tape that sticks to itself but not to skin or fur, then taped that up (not too tight) with vet tape and she seemed okay with that solution. She was licking the tape but not attacking it.
I called the vet and they told me to wrap it, keep it clean, check it and if it swells, discharges or keeps bleeding (i.e. leaving a puddle when she steps on it, since it will tend to re-open since she will have to continually walk on it) to call them. I also did a search on bleeding paw pads and saw neosporin and will do that tonight, any other suggestions besides love, treats and lotsa kisses?
P.S. Please keep good healing thoughts for our little one lovicon
