My Lady Liberty loves people so much that when the tow truck driver arrived today from AAA, she almost licked him to death. Lady is only 10 month old this month and I was hoping that she would be a little more reserved. Although I want her to remain a friendly dog, I sometimes wonder what would happen if someone broke in - would she aggressively put them in their place or lick them until they ran away. Anyone out there have any suggestions???

she's just a pup firstly so of course they get exited to see people :D... if you read boxer descriptions, in many of them it says that boxers can sence intruders from visiting people. Its an instinct and they can tell when something is quite not right.. as for having a friendly boxer thats wonderful news.. it would be a problem if she wasnt friendly.

Too Too Friendly

Thanks for the input Sweetie Pie, I was really worried. I love that Lady is friendly, but I also want her to be aware that someone jumping over he fence is not the same as someone being invited into my home.

Other than that, Lady is a fantastic pet. She is friendly, loving, funny and one heck of a jumper and chewer. I cannot find a toy (beside Kong) that will last more than 30 minutes. When Lady chews on rubber toys, her mouth area gets red and the Vet said some Boxers are alergic to rubber, but unfortunately any other top is distroyed within the hour - even the rope toys. I guess Lady will go through life with a red muzzle.

I last questions, I would like to post a photo of Lady to accompany my replies, does anyone know how to do this.

Thaks

zeus is only turning 6 months this month, but he's already showing signs of aggression. he'll place himself between me and the "would-be" attacker and growls and the hair on his back sticks straight up.
BUT if i start talking to the person in a normal voice, he completely changes his mind and starts wiggling and wanting to hop on them and lick them all over. so i really think boxers know the difference. i think if i were to panic and start yelling, he'd be ready to protect me.
and it's especially funny when my husband and i are arguing, zeus will start growling at him. of course, my husband doesn't like that. but i'm glad to know that zeus will be there for my protection.
also, another thing that i sort of encourage when we're at home, (and maybe i shouldn't, but i'd rather do it), is if we hear a noise outside, we'll ask him "who is it?" and he perks up his ears and runs to the window to check. if the coast is clear, he'll come back to what he was doing (usually chewing on something), but if there's a car passing by or a person walking by, he'll bark a few times to let them know there's a gaurd dog, prances back to his pillow on the floor and sits down with this look on his face that says "i SHOWED them!!!!"

Doc is 8 months old and he licks people to death he only barks when a car drives up but as soon as they walk in the house he licks them. I wondered the same thing about Doc. Would he really try to protect our family from a robber or welcome them.

Zues

Prosas and Zues, greetings. Personally this type of behavior is questionable and could be a signal of things to come. I would seriously consider talking to a trainer/behaviorist about Zues' behavior, especially the growling at hubby. Please, this is something that could become a real problem as Zues matures. A six month old pup exhibiting this behavior needs to be taken in hand now and not wait until something happens down the road when the behavior will be harder to correct. I'm sure there are others on the board here who would agree with me.

Thanks everyone for all of the input. I feel better now. When Lady hears something outside, she will run up to the loft (where I have a comfy cushioned chair for her to look out the window - had to replace the folding chair - was not comfortable enough for her) jump on her chair and growl or bark. She will do this at the window or the front door if she hears something. When she does this, I usually say 'SHOW ME" and she will usually take me to the place where she heard the noise. At first I would say 'IT'S OK" but a friend said I should show her attention when she is warning me of odd noises and encourage this and praise her for hearing things out of the ordinary.

:D BOY I LOVE THAT DOGGIE - SHE IS JUST THE GREATEST.

You could teach her bark on command and also teach he bark when someone comes to the door. Strangers won't know that she will lick them to death.

I wish my three would stop barking when someone comes to the door. It's like a zoo and my storm door has one of those long handles on it and Seger, the youngest jumps up and hits it and out the door he goes.

People think they're gonna get eaten alive when they see 3 boxers barking and lunging at the door, but I also agree, the second we let them out or Seger lets them out, they'll just lick you to death.

my hubby and i are currently looking for a good trainer in the houston area. one of my cousins gave me a suggestion on a two week program. so, yeah, we're going that route soon. but the only time he growls at him is when we raise our voices at each other...but usually, zeus is more apt to show love to my husband than at me. if my husband walks into a room, zeus will go nuts and wiggle his tail and sniff the air and go up to him and rub against my husband's leg and cry for attention...if i walk into a room, he will just look at me....THAT'S ALL!! and it's my dog mind you!!!!
