Too much red meat

My 11 month old boxer gets ox's heart a couple of times a week and sometimes lean mince. I was told too much red meat was not good for them. Can anyone tell me if this is true?

2-3 times a week doesn't sound excessive to me. What are feeding the rest of the time?

Definitely not too much! I have been feeding venison nearly exclusively for the last two months. Red meat is usually higher in calories so if you feed too much you may notice your dog putting on a little weight, but then just cut back.

He gets Bakers Complete Meaty Meals and sometimes Webbox Chub. He just goes mad for the raw meat. I seem to be the only person I know that gives their dog raw meat. The breeder I got him from fed him on it as well as complete.

I checked out the website, it is great I am going to try some different things with him. I fell a bit better about trying bones now, I was a bit concerned about choking. I am going to try him with a chicken quarter first. Thanks again for your help.

Chicken quarters would be a great addition to the diet. I understand Webbox Chubs are not great. I don't know anything about Bakers Complete Meaty Meals. Is that a raw food or ???? A totally raw diet is really best.

I was a bit concerned about choking.

It is a worry at first that I think we all have when starting raw. I find that if they don't chew their meals properly they tend to throw it up, then re-eat it, I know it's nasty, but they learn that way. :D

It's not raw Jan, it's up there with pedigree (poor). It's strange but over here hardly anyone questions what's in their bag of dog food, they just assume it's okay, coz they are well known brands.

A lot of people still don't question what is in their dog food here either. You just have to look at what's in their cart at Wal*Mart. Ol Roy, Pedigree, Beneful, Purina etc. etc.
