too much panting/allergies induced by food?

A few weeks ago Laika (1yr old) had an allergic reaction, in which her face swelled up like a boxer after a fight (pun intended), and the next day was covered in hives. OK fine, dealt with that with vet-recommended Benadryl. Then she started regularly licking her paws over and over...paws are red in between the digits (not from the licking). Other thing we noticed is that after we take her out for a play she gets overly out of breath, panting for a good half an hour. The only difference we can find is that we are switching her from Eagle Pack Puppy (too much poo) to Wellness. The only time she seemed fine with the paws is last week when she was babysat and got only the Eagle Pack, but the excessive panting has been there continuously for several weeks now. Can the food be promoting an allergic reaction (its spring!)? Is all this panting after a 10-15 play normal? Thanks for your comments.

If the excessive paw licking started after the food switch, I would guess that it is the cause. I would look at the ingredients and see what the difference is. It certainly sounds like the food is the cause and I would switch to something else.

30 minutes of panting isn't excessive, especially if it's hot. Markus can just go for a walk and will be panting when it's hot. The short nose on a boxer makes their cooling system poor and quite a bit of panting is normal. I used to spray Markus down when he was hot to help him cool off faster. If you are really concerned, I would take her to the vet.

Sounds like allergies.

Krose used to lick his paws like crazy too, then we switched to Lamb and Rice Formula and he's fine ever since.

About the panting, I agree with Jan. That doesn't sound like excessive panting. It's spring time now, going on to summer, time Krose hates because he needs to adjust to summer . He's been panting more lately;) Even after a 10 minute play with friends:)

Hi,
Our first boxer had allergies. He would lick and lick and lick. He was allergic to air borne allergins. We never could get them under control. If you have him checked and/or the food allergy dosen't seem to be the case, it may be air borne. They put Barkley on prednisone and benedryl, none of it worked but we live in SW Nebraska and he was allergic to I think almost everything. Until Barkley I didn't realize dogs could have allergies. He certainly tought me ALOT!! Good luck, it has to be miserable for the dog.
Sending good vibes your way!!
