HurricaneBox
Boxer Insane
hehe! I just have to share this story with other boxer people....
Hurricane has decided in no uncertain terms that he is done with his crate. For those of you who don't know we have dealt with some anxiety issues that have (until now) required us to keep him crated while we are gone. Normally he is only crated 5-6 hours per day, some days not even that. He always gives the pathetic "but why do you hate me so?" face when we tell him to 'go to bed' but he goes.
Yesterday I came home from work around 9 pm to be greeted at the door by my wildly beaning (and obviously loose) boxer! Now, DH left for his work at 3 pm, and had put Hurricane up before leaving as normal. I have no idea how he managed it, but he opened his crate door and had been snoozing quite happily on the couch for who knows how long! We have one of those giant wire crates with two latches, and apparently he has figured out how to open the latches from inside the crate.
The best part is, there was nothing destroyed (not that I expected it, he has never really been destructive) and he had not used the bathroom in the house! Big relief there, because that is how his anxiety was usually expressed.... even though he was perfectly house trained and had been outside just before us leaving, he got to the point where there would be several "presents" for us even if we were only gone 1 hour. On our bed, usually. So imagine my great relief and joy at finding a perfectly calm (well perfectly calm for a boxer anyway!) boy who was loose and no mess! appicon HOORAY!!!!!!
Since he obviously knows how to open the door to his crate, we have left him loose several times for short trips since last night and every time he has been fine. I think maybe we can start working up on the time frame so that eventually he doesn't have to be put up at all when we go to work.
I just had to share, I am happy that my boy is finally over the anxiety issues!
