On the surface the PetSmart food looks like it might be fairly decent (which I'm sure is what they want to convey); what concerns me is that 1) they don't list *all* their ingredients, only the top 10, and 2) in the top 5 ingredients, 3 are grains, for which dogs do not have a nutritional requirement...

Glucosamine & Chondroitin

Ok, I have a question. I have been meaning to ask this a while ago, but never had the chance. I can tell Innova is a very good dog food and would like to buy it, if I could (no place remotely close to me sells it and I am not sure I can afford it). I did notice, though, that it does not have Glucosamine or Chondroitin Sulfate, which I thought was pretty important for large breed dogs.
Maybe I am mistaken. Please let me know.

FYI - Innova's Senior Formula has Glucosamine & Chondroitin, as well as less fat and calories. Because I have a thriving 15-1/2 mo old, I won't change his food unless necessary. I switched from Eukanuba Lrg Puppy to Innova Adult @ 6 months and he's doing great! I did, however, feed a little too much (approx. 1/2 cup per feeding) at the beginning which resulted in loose stools :(

food/kibble

Up here, we can get Candadae from a few stores locally (or somewhat locally), which I found out through the internet, again, by putting in my postal code & letting their site do the work.

We are in the process of switching to a food similar to innova & candadae (human-grade mainly meat food, no chemical preservatives, etc), but that is made closer to home, & sold by a person down the street. Fresher & delivered to my door. I like that! It is more expensive, but after a LOT of research on what is in some foods, I am choosing to spend a little more on "convenience" dog kibble. This stuff is on the border of "holistic" dog food, although I think that that must be an overused term for describing a food for a dog!

Also, Spot will eat it. I can't wait to see the trimming down effect it will have on him (they don't have corn in it & a lot of other junk), and him having a lot less stool. The advantage of a more easily/completely digestible product.

Springfield is the 3rd largest city in ALL of Missouri, and not ONE petstore carries Innova. You can tell this is the puppy mill state, nobody cares about their dogs! (opps, did I say that?)
Guess I will decide on something else. I am feeding Iiams right now and am going to change now.

For what its worth...and hopefully not to confuse anyone :)

I personally feed Precise Plus to Bru and Hills Sensitive Stomach to Amaya. I have had great luck and both dogs are doing great. Precise is more natural and has herbal supplements.

I work with rescue and talk to a lot of handlers/ breeders. One handler I know has champion dogs and feeds Iams. Another feeds Purina One. I think any quality food like Eukanuba, Nutro, Iams etc will work fine. You feed less with the more premium foods with less waste.

If you are into more natural foods try Innova, Calif Natural or Precise.

Innova

Hello Everyone,

Well ... I used Eukanuba and my Boo Boo seems to like it.
He was on Iams puppy product for a while.

Also, we went to a pet store and tore off a piece of Innova's
biscuit and gave it to Boo Boo. Boo Boo immediately barfed
it out. So ... I don't know.

Although, the claims regarding the ethoxyquin chemical
does bother me. I'll need to read the labels a little bit more.
But, from what I've been reading ... It looks like Nutro and
Proctor Gamble is in an all out war with each other.

Oh Well ... I'll need to try some of the Innova dog food when
Boo Boo gets older. Let's see if he likes the dog food more
than the biscuit.

I have been slowly switching Roxanne to Innova. I was feading Nutro and then I walked into the feed store down the street and they told me about Innova. It costs the same plus I can walk down the street to buy it instead of driving across town to Petsmart. My son is hoping this means less poop! I think my dog eats better than I do!

When Wal-Mart started selling Iams, I quit using anything made by the same company (Eukanuba). Not that I don't LOVE Wal-Mart, but I heard that the Iams/Ekanuba food had gone down hill.

I started my new puppy on Nutro Natural Choice Large Breed Puppy Formula, and she has a beautiful glossy coat, and is the picture of health. My adult dog is on the Nutro Large Breed Adult formula, and is doing great on it, also. :)

not sure about scientific basis, but...

i'm pretty stubborn. my dog was on eukanuba at one point and a friend with whom i work (who at one point was in some way affiliated with pet smart in the capacity of health consultant (not vet)) pitched a huge fit about how it was crap and i might as well feed my baby ol' roy. in fact, it was his contention that MOST corn-based foods are crap and on;y a handful of those available are worth purchasing.
on his recommendation i switched a to a brand i can't recall, readily available at super pet and the local hardware and feed store, but not very popular. it was his contention that it was the best food for my money.
we drifted apart and i started feeding my dogs all kinds of stuff since miss daisy is picky. enter my friend paul, a vet tech at UGA's vet school, who again pitched a fit and made us return to good food. alas, i can't recall what brand it is, either. but it arrives once every few weeks in a white bag with an orange circular design and, again, isn't very popular.
anyway, consensus did seem to be that eukanuba is, indeed, crap.
