To Vaccinate or not - Help!

A friend vaccinated his puppy and it became very sick... He told me not to vaccinate my Boxer pup and wished he knew more about before he put his dog through that, and sent me a website explaining what the Vets won't tell you. Please let me know what to believe. I hope this link works.

Vaccinate. I have seen dogs get parvo & distemper. These are very real & deadly diseases. I know of an adult dog that contracted distemper because she wasn’t vaccinated as a pup. So if you choose not to vaccinate she can get sick now or many years later.

With that being said don’t OVER vaccinate. After puppy shots & the 1yr booster then you can wait 3 years between vaccinations or if you’d rather you can run titers.

Another thing to consider is that your pup cannot be boarded or join training classes without her vaccinations.

While some (very few) dogs can have bad reactions to vaccinations the reality is that vaccinations save far more lives than they harm.

Agreed.... vaccinate. Without any vaccinations, you run a risk every time your dog steps outside. The risk of an unvaccinated pup getting sick would worry me much, much more than a vaccination reaction.

One of my dogs had a pretty nasty reaction to one of her puppy shots, but she made it through fine and we still went in a month later to finish up the series; the vet gave her something to hopefully prevent another reaction like that (can't remember what it was), and all was well.

IMO if you do enough research you can find enough to convince you of what you wanted to know in the first place.

case in point ~ my 16 decided that she didnt want a flue shot last year ~ and presented me with MANY MANY print outs ( with my ink - of course , - not hers ) of why this was DANGEROUS , even though her dad has cancer ( we ALL should have the shot ) she also presented documents supporting her argument on that aspect also.

long story short ~ dad got the flue , spent a cpl days in the hospital , tanya didnt - i was ill a cpl days. so she feels she proved her point. BUT if she had gotten hers , maybe dad wouldnt have gotten it , ????? who knows.

i am still on the page , better safe then sorry. BUT with education. the first time i took my pup to the vet, i had no clue - said give him what he needs ~!1 ( many years ago ) you need education of course , but they also need life saving vacs !

ANOTHER CASE IN POINT ~ 5 - 6 years ago my ex lived in NC across from a pitt farm , he had a new puppy & put of getting his shots .... my daughter was visiting for the summer and that puppy died in her arms from parvo -the puppy had never been over at the other house. BUT hubby he had put off shots for ( what ever reason ) and my child had a sweet puppy die in her arms. VERY TRAUMATIC ..... she was around 10 then.

she now has a pit/boxer "naughty" and she would not leave the house with that pup, until she had all her shots.


IF you are considering not vac ur pup , think about the big picture PLEASE !!! you can , and probably WILL, loose you loved pet to something you could have prevented !

i have seen what not vaccinating can do - to ppl & pets ~~~ all that we love. i DID NOT MEAN TO OFFEND, JUST SHARE WHAT I HAVE LEARNED AND LIVED !!

Yeah I agree with the others absolutely do the puppy vaccinations and the 1 year booster. After that you can make the choice whether or not to do the 3 year protocol or to titer instead to make sure the immunities are there. Just too many cases of everything parvo especially with nasty survival rates not to mention taking it's toll on you emotionally, your pup physically, and your pocketbook financially.

Please do your research. I think that the worst thing that you can do is over vaccinate a puppy. It is very stressful on their immune system. I would avoid the cocktail shots that include everything under the sun. I would suggest that you follow Jean Dodds vaccination schedule, which is posted below.

My dogs are only given Parvo and Distemper and nothing else. You will need to give Rabies if it is required in your area, but put it off as long as possible.

Just realized that you are in Manitoba too. Here is a chart showing the incidence of rabies in Canada:

Rabies vaccination is not required here. If you live in town and don't allow you pup off leash as night, the risk of getting rabies is very low. You have to choose whether it is important or not.
