It does seem like people have a lot more to say then they use to. I agree people should really keep their opinions to themselves. I haven't expierenced any negative or positive comments about my babies ears. I also choose not to have them cropped.

I know how you feel!! I had to defend my decision to crop Ares ears! I was told off by my vet! Then I had to explain myself to my neighbors! Dont know why I did but they made me feel like I was horrible for doing it. It didnt bother my dh but it did me. Now that her ears are done everyone loves them but wow the opinions I got before I took her were awful!

I agree people should leave their opinion to themselves unless asked. They dont realize how hurtful they can be!

I love floppy ears and cropped....

We decided to keep our boy o' natural because we like the "goofy, silly" boxer look. But I do like cropped ears too, I think they make boxers look so regal, and dignified. When ppl have asked me if I am going to get his ears done and I tell them no I have had nothing but positive feedback. Ppl saying they like the floppy ears and they couldn't put there dog through that, yada yada yada. But no one has ever been so bold as to say he was a boxer because of that! That is ridiculous! Sorry you had to deal with ppls lack of respect for your decisions.

We went through the same thing with Pimp. My mom especially she says to me all of the time that she wishes I would have left his ears floppy, but she also didn't want me to get me a puppy to begin with so her opinion doesn't count. Now that his ears are pretty much done everyone that sees them says that they look very nice!!

This is so interesting. I never considered that people were getting the rude comments for NOT cropping! All my life I've only known boxers with the cropped look, and never even realized that the tide was turning against cropping until I found this site (and became an addict :) ) I LOVE a good crop (wish we had one) but I don't know if I would do it again. My husband says we will. . .maybe our next boxer will be a rescue so we don't have to decide! I was advised by some boxer-owner friends to not ask the vet for the tall "show" cut, but now I think we have the pit-bull cut. It didn't help that Samson kept ripping out his stitches and had to be put under for surgery twice to re-do. . . It did only take 2 weeks to post though. . .

We had Brutus's ears cropped and while we love the way he looks with them, we're choosing to not have Trinity's done. A lot of people ask us if we are going to crop her ears, but we figure it's mostly because big brother has his done. Usually, people tell us they like the look of the floppy ears. I love the way Brutus looks and can't even imagine what he would look like with floppy ears now. We got some mean looks when our little boy was all taped up, but I can't remember anyone ever making rude comments because we had it done. Thankfully, they kept their opinions to themselves.

I think a lot of the comments come from the fact the a LOT of people have never seen a Boxer without cropped ears. To them it is the way Boxers have always looked and, as far as they know, are supposed to look. Think about it, until this year the breed standard in the US was to have cropped ears. Either way, we left Guinness' ears natural and are happy with the look.

LOL - depends where you live ;) Cropping was outlawed here over 130 years ago - and that's quite a bit longer than the boxer breed has existed. No doubt a cropped boxer in the UK would attract a lot of comments, possibly even along the lines of "what breed of dog is that?"

There's a difference between asking questions and making nasty comments about someone's choice to alter/not alter their dog's ears though ;) Pity some people can't keep it to the former.

Thanks for all the input. I'm sorry that some of you have had to deal with rude people, too. I love the look of floppy and cropped and we debated for a bit about whether to get Tyler's done. DH's first boxer had his ears done and he was gorgeous! I guess I'm shocked that people seem so concerned about his ears-we never expected to get so many strangers opinions. This is why I love BW-I can always count on good feedback from all of you!
