To crop or not to crop-please keep your opinions to yourself!!

Tyler is 11 weeks old now and I have already had quite a few comments about his floppy ears. Some guy today at Petco asked if he was all boxer-said he wasn't sure because his ears aren't cropped (now that's a bit extreme). I would never say anything to anyone about their "ear decision" and I would certainly not be insulting towards a boxer because his ears or tail weren't done. We have chosen to keep his ears natural, just a personal decision. After we told that man that we don't want his ears cropped, he still proceeded to give us the name of a vet who does it-some people!! Has anyone else had to defend their decision about their pup's ears? The next person who gives me a hard time I will just say "If I wanted your opinion, I would have given it to you!!!!!"

We decided to leave Tiger's ears natural, and I think he's just the cutest little thing! I haven't heard much negative feedback about it. He's 2 1/2 now, and I think maybe one or two people have said something about we "should have cropped his ears". Like you said, that's their opinion, not mine!!!

Unfortunately, there are alot of people that feel that they can blurt their opinions to anyone. Just the other day, Bella and I were in the car while dh ran in the store. All of a sudden, someone is banging on my window...:eek: that was scary enough...I looked and it was a man with a huge smile on his face asking..."How old is she?...She is beautiful" I rolled down the window, told him she was 5 months and he asked, "Wanna breed her? My male is right down the road...let me give you my number" I immediately said, she is scheduled to be spayed, he went on to tell me I was crazy because she is soo beautiful and I could get sooo much for her puppies!! The nerve to tell me I am crazy!!! :rolleyes: I'm afraid you will just have to adjust to some of these uneducated people, and tell them what you know and leave it at that! As far as the ears, I see way more natural ears then cropped nowdays. Just do what you think is best and shrug off all the negativity!!

I"ve never had a negative comment about Titan's ears. Just some lady once at Petsmart that was grouchy and was like "have fun keeping his ears clean, my dogs' are always gross" Kinda caught me off guard but I've had no problems with Titan's ears. Anyway, I wouldn't worry about their comments if I were you. I think both ways are cute, but myself I prefer the cute floppy ears on my baby. Maybe the comments are from ppl who've only seen boxers with cropped ears, maybe they dont know there's an uncropped option.

I agree that people really should keep some opinions to themselves. When it comes down to it, it is personal preference. We used to have a neighbor that would say, "I love your dogs, but that is so cruel because you had their ears cropped." ....... Like every time we talked. It got old so one day my husband just put it in plain terms, pretty much like you said "If I want your opinion, I'll give it to you..." Everyone is entitled to their opinion on what they think is best, but when someone keeps on pushing the issue about what you have chosen as being wrong, it really is just plain rude, IMO. I really appreciated when I first found BW because people here are educated about boxers and I have never had anyone with a boxer with natural ears say rude things about other people's boxer's ears being cropped, or vice versa. I honestly do not think our next boxer will have it's ears done. When I first fell in love with boxers, cropped ears were all I really ever saw around, but the more natural ears I see the more I like them. I say do what you think is best!

I do get a lot of "flack" from people for leaving my babies's ears natural. Like you, it is just a personal preference, not a politicial statement of any kind. My brother especially, never hesitates to tell me that "boxers are supposed to have cropped ears". Also, I grew up in a very rural area of NC, and when I take my kids back, I usually hear at least one comment from some stupid redneck with tobacco juice dripping down his chin, "what kinder dawg is that thang? Boxers supposed to have them lil' ears." Sorry - I'm bitter. I just like the goofy expressions and silly flopping of the ears. More ears, more to pet!!

The nerve of some people! That's like telling someone their skin baby needs a different hair cut or you need to get them braces. I love the floppy ears! Bentley will perk up one side way up on the top of his head. It's adorable. As for around here, I haven't seen that many boxers but the one's I have almost all seem to be uncropped.

I on the other hand have everyone tell me."You are Not going to crop his ears are you?" There is nothing cuter than those little faces looking at something on the floor and those ears flopping in the air over their faces

You can't call him a Boxer

The employees I supervise know how I feel about my dogs. I had 3 in my office one morning when a new guy came, saw Sherlock's picture on my desk and asked what kind of dog was he. I said Boxer. He said No, Boxers have ponted ears and somebody fooled you. The 3 other employees almost fell over themselves getting out of my office (but stood in the hall). I calmly stated I chose not to crop his ears and he is a Boxer with papers to prove it. "Your papers must be fake and that's not a Boxer" was his reply. I decided I had better things to do that try to have an intelligent conversation with this moron and changed the subject. It's a personal perference for ear cropping, I don't care if you do or don't. Just don't tell me my dog is not a Boxer because he doesn't have "pointed" ears!!

You know, it astounds me how people can be so rude! Luckily, I've not had any experience of this. I've never seen a boxer with cropped ears in this country. I would never dream of forcing my opinions about anything on anyone else! Some people have no idea how to behave...grrrrrrrrrrrrr!
