Tired Puppy

Well, he's not really a puppy any more...

But I went on vacation with my family this last week and had to leave Cosworth with the neighbors. I hate leaving him as even though he's an alpha dog, he's also a big daddy's boy and a homebody. But he loves the neighbors and their 3 kids and always has a good time with them.

So I came by and picked him up. He was happy to see me, but seemed a bit off... Just not quite himself... I couldn't figure out what it was... Then I was in the kitchen putting together my lunch and Coz was sitting there watching like he always does and I figured out what it was! He was almost falling asleep on his feet! He was doing that head nod, huh!, jerk awake thing. :D

No matter how much I run him I've never seen Cosworth that tired! He must have had a blast this weekend. Right now he's curled up on the couch next to me, twitchy and running after the 10 year olds in his dreams.

I love that!! Nothing better than a tired, happy puppy. And to top it off, I bet your neighbor is grateful too, because if there is anything close to a wonderful tired, happy pup, its a tired, happy child.

Now...the real problem begins. Try keeping Cosworth and those children away from one another for any length of time. You are going to be doing playdates constantly.

One time, we had to board Scrapper and Holly because we were going to a place where we couldn't take them. When we brought them home afterwards, Scrapper was just exhausted. He slept all day on the couch, almost like he was just so relieved to be back home; I felt bad that he had probably expended a bunch of emotional energy during those days worrying about why he wasn't with his family. It took him a couple of days to get back to normal. It was like he was missing us so much, it took a lot out of him. Maybe that happened to Cosworth.

Yeah, already everytime I walk by their house I hear a little voice, "Hey Mr. Steven! Can Cosworth come over and play?"

The happy, worn out, tired pup is the best pup ever! It is so great that you have neighbors to watch over him as well!

Cosworth and the neighbors kids...a match made in heaven. I think these dogs just make friends very easily. When we had our first boxer, 19 years ago, the garbagemen saw him one day. From then on they took their lunch break at our house on garbage day so that they could spend it playing with Rocky. Just picture, 3 fascinated little boys (they all wanted to be 'worker men just like that when they grew up) a yard full of big men and a silly, very happy dog. It happened every week until that particular shift of guys was transferred. Still makes me smile to think of it.
