Recently I have noticed this itty bitty cloudy cirlce on Obie's left eye. It is very small, probably just a bit bigger then the tip of a pen. I figured it was just something in his eye and ignored it, until I noticed it again a week later. I have scheduled an appointment for him to see the vet next week. In the mean time, does anyone know what it could be? And could it be treated?
Thanks in advance.

I am not sure but I think doggie cataracts (sp) start out that way.
How old is Obie? I know of a poodle that has had surgery because of cataracts and she does great. Of course, she can't tell you if she can see well or not, but she gets around fine.

Good Luck!

Tess has some "clouds" in her eyes and my vet told me they were fatty deposits and not to worry about it, as they did not seem to be affecting her vision. She's almost 4, so they did not think it was cataracts. Hope everything turns out OK with your baby.

Tyke had these all his life in both eyes - different vets told us different things, the ones we trusted (those who were interested in animal care, not the amount of money that could get out of loving owners!) were not worried as they did not seem to bother him in any way. They never spread for the whole of his almost 12 years and never seemed to affect his sight.

Now Barney seems to have the same thing, but only in one eye. Again, it doesn't seem to affect him and the vet has not commented on it when he has his check up.

I was just starting to wonder if it was another Boxer thing......along with those plugs in their ears that stop them from hearing you when they want (or don't want) to do (or not do) what you're telling them!

It's wise to get it checked out, as it could be something different, but in our experience so long as it isn't spreading or affecting them, we've learnt not to worry.....hope that helps ease your mind ;-D

Oh thank you so much! I was very worried it would be cattracts (sp?)... thank you for putting me at ease. I will still get it checked out, but at least now I won't be on pins and needles until the appointment.
Thanks again!

princess has little cloudy spots in her eyes as well... i had gotten her from her old owner who used to beat her.. my vet told me that the spots were most likely from being hit in the head (in her words it was "head trama").. my poor baby.. i dont understand how they could treat her like that but now i know that the spots in her eyes arent bothering her and are nothing serious..

Boxers can be prone to corneal ulcers.......which can be hard to heal. Also a possibility of a scratch or rubmark from rough play.
We've been going through the "Indolent Ulcer" thing recently with Mack.
Let us know!
PS In our experience with Mack - these ulcers were painful and obvious. If your pup is not uncomfortable, it's probably not a big deal.

My guess is corneal ulcer as well. Boxers are prone to them and they can look like little clouds.

Amaya had a corneal ulcer in her eye- she has a little scarring from it and a cloudly looking spot although she is not hindered in any way and the vet confirmed that she has healed.

Amaya did not have any pain when the ulcer was active and did not have a red eye- which is why we did not catch it earlier on her.

Princess~ Your poor baby! I'm glad to hear she is in good hands now, i'm sure she feels like the luckiest pooch in the world to be out of that horrible home and in your care. :)
I have never hit Obie in the head and I pray no one else ever has (he stays at my in-laws alot in the summer... they have a huge backyard, although I trust they would never hurt my babies). The most I have ever done was gave Obie a slap in the mouth for snapping at our neighbor (who I highly dislike, but snapping at/biting someone is unexceptable).

Brutus and nanabear~ I'll be sure to ask the vet about an corneal ulcer. Obie and Tank can play very roughly, sometimes to the point where I need to seperate them. But Obie doesn't seem to be showing any signs of pain or discomfort... although he does scratch his face alot.
Hmm, i never thought of this. Obie will scratch the left side of his face somedays constantly. Maybe while he is scratching he is accidentaly hitting his eye... or maybe he is scratching his face be cause his eye itches?
