Timeshare seminars

Just curious......I was talking to my friend the other day and some friends of hers went to Florida to listen to a seminar on purchasing a timeshare. Here's the catch.....the timeshare company pays for your hotel and rental car and you are responsible for the air and you daily expenses.
There is supposed to be no obligation to buy.

Has anyone ever participated in something like this???? I guess they stayed 4days 3 nights in Orlando and then Key West but I'm not sure how many days there!

Will enjoy your feedback!

Thanks,

Marcy

It depends on what kind of person you are. Well, let me start by asking you how do you feel when telemarketers call your home? If your answer is "I hate it" then you shouldn't participate on a timeshare seminar. It's true, they will pay for your stay, but it's not really free. They will bore you to death about their resort and althought you are not obligated to purchase, they will be very persistant that you do. So if you are looking for a quiet getaway at the expenses of the timeshare company, don't do it. I for one, wouldn't have the patience to be followed around and pitched a sales presentation everyday.

They follow you around constantly? I just thought you went to this one day thing and then you were on your own to do whatever once you've lived through their seminar?

I'll have to ask them what they thought of it when they get back. Telemarketers don't call our house because we have a special plan on our phone that doesn't accept calls!

Thanks for your reply.

My husband and I have done this a couple of times and got a free weekend in Daytona (right on the beach) and a free weekend in Orlando. All that was required was attendance at a 90 minute presentation each time, which included a buffet breakfast. Yes, it's kind of a pain, but if you set your mind to just saying "NO" and making sure your salesperson is aware that you are not buying, it's not too bad. I usually tell them I am just "shopping around" and that I never buy on inpulse. Once they know that you are not signing anything that day, they back off. The timeshares we visited also threw in a couple of movie passes, dinner gift certificates or casino boat tickets. Accomodations were much nicer than a regular hotel and included full kitchens, etc. also.

Good Luck!

I heard it was very hard not to buy something... Are you the only one who can resist? :)

Okay, true confessions . . . we already own a timeshare! When we purchased it, I had extreme buyer's remorse afterwards, but now am looking forward to enjoying the flexibility it offers since you can trade it for almost anywhere else in the World. I have to admit the first time we did a timeshare tour afterwards (and got our free stay in Daytona), I was a bit uneasy about being able to stick to my guns. It helps to know that even if we could afford to purchase another unit, we'd never get enough time off from work to enjoy both! After that tour, Orlando was a breeze. Had all my "canned" responses ready for their "canned" sales pitches! They really all give the same pitch too, so IF you can get past the first one, you should be home free.

We are actually going this weekend to a place in Orlando called Summer Bay Resort. It's not a total freebee, but we're getting a very nicely equipped two bedroom, two bath villa for the weekend, plus two tickets to a theme park for a total of $170 (the tickets alone would be $50 each).

I will start my Mantra come Friday "Just Say No!" "Just Say No!" - Wish me luck!

Ihave been to many before also and the gifts etc are great but they really pressure you, you have to be able to say NO and don't let them pressure you into anything unless your really intrested.
