I haven't posted much but I really need some help. I will be putting down my 14 yo boxer Jack on Monday. He is having trouble standing up because his hips have given out. He is also deaf and pretty much blind as well as very wobbly after several recent seizures.

I am here to find out the best way to say goodbye. I am planning on holding him while he passes. He is my fiest dog. I will miss him soooo much. I also have a 4yo that I got several months ago. I am hoping having him helps. I am trying to just comfort jack and be thankful for the 14 years I've had with him. it is so hard to let go though. I keep thinking how short my time left with him is:/

I'm sorry I missed your post. Had to work yesterday and today. Nothing will ease the immediate loss you feel except time and preoccupation with your other pup. It sure helped us.
I held my last Boxer Dakota in my lap as she was given the injection. She was wracked with cancer. She fought it well but lost. The last month was terrible to see her waste away and quiver in pain. I waited a week too long so my son, her first owner could come to town and say goodbye.
Sounds like you gave your boy Jack a good life if he lasted 'till 14. A lot don't make it that long.
Hoping the good memories replace the feelings of loss and sadness for you quickly.
Bye Jack, sounds like you had a good Dad!

I didn't see your post either! I am so sorry! 14 years of age is a really really good age for a boxer. You obviously looked after him very well. i am sure your other boxer will give you comfort at this time of loss. The pain will eventually fade and the happy memories will last forever.

Godspeed Jack! Run free at the Rainbow Bridge!

I too also missed your post, sorry!

14 years for a boxer is huge, but of course it is never long enough. When I said goodbye to Diva (who was over 13) I knew it was the right decision, but it was still one of the most difficult decisions to make. The day when it was time was a beautiful sunny winter's day and the vet and vet nurse (who had known Diva for most of her life) offered to come to the house and that is what I wanted. She passed away peacefully in the warm winter sun on a mattress on the deck and I of course bawled my eyes out while I held her.

You have obviously given Jack a wonderful life and my thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

Hoping all went well and you made peace at the end. Saying goodbye is never easy. Know that he was loved until the very last minute and you blessed him with peace and no more suffering. Hoping good memories will be a comfort to you and your family.

I hope his passing was peaceful. My thoughts are with you, I know how horribly sad and devastated you must be.

Run free Jack

I wish you the best in your time of sadness. My boxer is getting old as well and I also am cherishing every moment I am great full to get with him. It is very unfortunate how short this great breed gets to be with us.

I am sorry on a few levels. Sorry I missed your post and was unable to give you support and sorry that the time has come to say goodbye to Jack.
I truly hope that it was peaceful and that in time you will feel comfort in the knowledge that in your final act of love that you released him from a body that was breaking down to run free at the bridge.

This January 1st will be one year since Heidi left us. I think we have talked about her every day since. There are so many good memories and at least you know they are not suffering anymore. It's a hard road but you just have to do what's best for them. What a blessing to have jake with you for 14 years!
