When I logged onto Boxerworld it was the first time since the end of January. Since then we've sold up, bought again and moved and lost a dear doggy friend. Although that loss was our choice, our love for the safety of our two toddler Grandsons was greater than our love for Zak. His attitude toward them was untrustworthy and I feared his snapping at their faces would one day become something I'd rather not be responsible for.
We have a rejuvenated Cinda still with us, not realising just how dominant Zak was until after his demise she began to blossom and come out of her shell where he'd so deftly put her. He took her space and pushed her away from us demanding our time, attention and love to her detriment. Now 8.5 years old she has become puppy-like in her exuberance and shares in our lives as she di pre-Zak.
Don't get me wrong. I loved Zak and he had a very special place in my heart. He was loving and a great character. But even as the vet tested him, he went for her too. I can't condone that sort of behaviour in an animal no matter how dear it may be. As it was his temperament and not something learnt there was no way he could be given away. You just don't do that to someone else. Even the SPCA would have put him down.
He has been gone now for nearly three and a half months and I still think of him with a catch in my heart. Rest easy sweetchops.
