Thyroid Medication

Our dog Jackson has just started on meds for a very low thyroid. Does anyone know how long it should take before they start to work. He is taking one tablet twice a day and so far has taken three pills.

I saw a difference in Jasmine in about two weeks I think. It was years ago. She started thyroid meds at age 10 and lived until age 14.

Thanks, that is good to know. I wasn't sure what to expect. Didn't know whether it was something that would happen suddenly or take a few days.

It will take a couple weeks at least...you will need to have her levels retested in about a month to see if the initial dose that was prescribed is maintaining her levels correctly. sometimes getting a dog on the right dose takes a bit of time, so don't be surprised if you need to do some adjusting. Once you get them on the correct dose, its generally smooth sailing from there on out! and luckily, thyroid meds are inexpensive!
