Last night Achilles had me really freaking out, we had to take him to the vet around 10:30pm and didn't get out til 2:00am.

It all began around 1:00pm, i was cutting the grass in the backyard with Achilles running loss. We are never in the backyard so of course the darn stray cats use it as a litter box. As im cutting the grass he finds about 3 piles of cat poop and eats about half of each before i could get to him. "Achilles leave it! Dont be gross, your going to get sick" but did he listen no. We are hanging around the house til about 2:30pm when i lock him up in his kennel so i can go to my gf house.
(He seemed fine when i left, everything was normal)

I get back around 8:00pm my dad is home and i take Achilles out to pee. Its a short break he doesn't seem like he wants to poop. I go inside to play video games while Achilles rough houses with my dad in the living room. About 20mins later i here my dad yelling, "Achilles just pooped". I go to clean the poop (soft like melting ice cream) i put it in the bag then trash it outside, then go back to my games. While playing video game i here Achilles licking something. I go to check what it is and i find him about 80% done with eating a pile of his own poop.

8:30 I finished cleaning it up and tossing it outside, and we go to my room. I hear that pre vomit burp and then "blah" poop smelling/looking vomit on his bed and the floor. As i go for napkins to clean it up "blah" same stuff same mess. As im rushing to clean up he vomits again, then again, then again. (5 times in the house poopy look and smell)

8:45 Im grossing out and worried, the house stinks and i dont know what to do. I clean everything up with napkins then start mopping the floor while checking on him.

9:00 I finished mopping then go outside and noticed this slimy stuff like if a giant slug passed by, i ignore it and focus on Achilles. He comes up to me and looks guilty and sad. Then he walks away and vomits about a baseball size pile of bile (sp?), its white foamy and slimy. I look around the yard and there are about 7 over piles. Then Achilles starts acrhing like if he is going to poop but nothing is coming out. He is pacing the yard arched then finally able to sneeze some out. It reall soft and has bubbles. I call my gf for help she calls her boss/vet, my gf calls me back and say those are all signs of DPST??? aka bloat. My eye water up and i asked "what do i do, where do i take him" She says she is coming over to help me. In the mean while Achilles vomits about 6 more times then on and off continues to walk arched.

10:00 Achilles has relaxed a bit and im just rubbing his body while we sit and wait on the couch. It had been about 10mins since he last arched or vomited and my gf should be here any min. Then i hear a burp, achilles is trying not to vomit on the couch. I open the door and say "come on buddy" he walks out then vomits 2 more times (bile) about a golf ball size this time. My girlfriend shows up mins later and Achilles is doing his booty dance for her. Like if nothing is wrong. So we watch him for a while my girlfriend call her boss and explains his behavoir, checks his gums, touches his belly. Her boss says " he should be weak right now but if it was my dog i'd take him to the ER".

10:30 we arrive at the vets office, Achilles seems fine.

11:00 We leave to big waiting room to wait in a smaller room.

12:00am Tech shows up to get info AGAIN, then weights achilles.

12:15 Vet comesin asked for info AGAIN, the recommends xrays. (hello thats what we asked for)

1:00am Vet comes in, xrays show and empty stomach and gassy intestants (sigh of relief). Then blah blah blah blah... (i just want my dog back)

2:00am Achilles comes back to me with a shot to help with the upset stomach and 2 sets of piles.

Yikes, what an ordeal!!! Glad it wasn't bloat! Do yo have possums where you live? I've never had a dog get that sick from eating cat poop but I have had one get very sick from eating possum poop...and let me tell you, there is no smell like possum poop vomit!!!

I haven't seen any possums, but i know there are cats, squirrels, and pigeons. The stuff did smell gross and it was all over the house. The smell reminded me of the time he got sick after eating chocolate syrup.
He seems normal except for looking a little tired.

I'm glad Achilles is feeling better! What a scary night you all had! We used to have feral cats where we lived in VA that thought our yard was their litter box. My first boxer would eat the poop, come inside and throw it back up. It was the worse smelling stuff ever! I would always gag cleaning it up. Most times I would take several trips to another room to breathe and then have to go back and finish cleaning up. I hope Achilles learned his lesson, but if my first girl is any indication, than I wouldn't bet on it!

Oh man, sounds like one heck of an ordeal. We just moved, but at the old house we had some ferrel cat pooping in the yard daily, and no matter what I did it kept coming back. Of course Thora would find the "cookies" before I would and gobble them up.. ick. Sometimes she'd have some soft stool afterwards, but nothing bad thankfully. The new place is on a wooded lot, so I still worry about cats and other wildlife poo- mostly I'm worried about her catching something. A lot of people in the neighborhood have outside cats to control the mice, and I've already seen one marking the trees in our yard :/ Hope Achilles is feeling all better soon!

Wow, that sounds scary! I have had a few bloat "scares" with Caney (probably more me freaking out than anything) including one where we ended up at the vet and she was diagnosed with an upset stomach and "gas." Boy was that an expensive tummy ache!

Glad everything is OK and Achilles is feeling better.

Yup Achilles has been feeling better, but it seems like he was still trying to catch up on the sleep he missed. Up until yesterday evening he had been tired and lazy, taking naps every chance he got. Of course from all that vomitting, not eating dinner, and having a 1cup breakfest, he know looks ribby.

Overall it seems like i also got stuck with a $250 vet bill and no clue what happened to him. I find it kind of hard to believe the cat poop did this to him when he had eaten it like 5-6 hours before the vomitting started and as a pup he had eaten his own poop before.

My girl, Leah, has allergies and when she gets into the cat poop she turns into an itchy mess for a couple of days. So yes, to me anyway, it isn't hard to believe that cat poop can cause problems. $250.00 isn't bad. One blood test is usually around $100.00 itself. You must remember that is why human and veterinary medicine is called a "practice"

Do what I've been doing. I started having $5.00 taken out of my pay check and into a savings account that I can't access (so I can't take it and use it..LOL) with out going to the bank for such dog situations. I also save all my change and take it in and put it to this account.

Glad Achilles is doing better.
