Insurance
I was browsing and came across the insurance question. Here is
some valuable info for anyone who has or is
considering getting insurance. I've had uninterrupted insurance with
Petshealth for Duncan since he was a puppy. I just learned that when
the policy renews, Petshealth considers it a new policy, that is, any and
all conditions treated in the prior policy year are now considered
pre-existing and will not be covered in the new policy year. For
example, and I asked this exact question, if the policy renews in
August and the dog gets diagnosed with cancer in July, they will cover
treatment in July, but not when the policy renews in August. Of four
pet insurance companies which I contacted, Petshealth is the only one
who defines pre-existing like this, and of course it isn't spelled out in
the contract. The other three companies are Healthy Paws which is not
writing new policies, VPI (Veterinary Pet Insurance), and PetCare.
I researched VPI and they checked out best. My vet, who used to
recommend Petshealth now recommends VPI. You can email if you
want any numbers or websites.
