thinking about a second boxer

I have a five month old boxer boy and have been thinking about adding a second to our family. I haven't had two dogs at one time in my life, except when I was a kid. I have two boys age 9 and 12, and they are very helpful with Lex, anf of course they want another. Then there would not be any disagreements on who's bed Lex gets to sleep on! My only concern is adding mayhem to our household. I am almost sure that a second boxer would be fabulous, but I would love to hear how the adjustment period is. I am going to get a female, and Lex will be neutered before we make this decision.

I got Ginger whan Hammer was 5.5 months old in October '02. Ginger was about 1 year old, but she's a rescue so we don't know for sure. It's the best thing we ever did!! Granted, they are very rambunctious when they play, but over time they learn where to play and where not to. Boxers are very vocal, so they tend to be very noisy, but I hardly notice it these days. My friends on the phone will often say "ummm, do you want to go break up that dogfight I hear", I just laugh and say they're just playing!

I recommend rescuing an older boxer for your baby, because his teen years haven't even started yet, and I would be nuts if I had a young pup now that Hammer's 10 months old! He is so much more of a handful than he was at 5 months! Ginger keeps me sane!

We have two boxers, King and Queen, and I couldn't imagine only having one of them. They both are big babies but they both provide us with so much love! They keep each other occupied when were not home. Go for it! It's a great idea!

I would DEFINITELY do it! An only child is nice, but you'll see that the dogs will keep each other company and stay out of your hair more often! If you adopt a non-puppy you'll probably notice that it's a lot less chaotic around the house! Especially if your kids will have 'their own' pet to love on! Good luck if you decide to add another to your family!

I had always only had 1 dog growing up...got Rock and figured he needed a friend. DO IT!! They entertain each other...sleep together...eat together. It's a riot!! You won't be sorry.
