suzie, it is so sad when we have to help our babies cross over. I always felt that it takes a true lover of animals to know when to say good bye. one thing you can do is write down a few thing that Vex loves to do. when he can not do those it is time to help him cross. I know that when I helped spice my dalmation cross she was 13 she looked at me as to say thank you mom. I can go now. I know I did the right thing for her. and that is how I find peace. good luck and I hope that everything works out for vex.

I am so sorry to hear about your baby! I wish there was something I could do for you to make this all better. I will pray for you and your baby. It is so hard to see our babies suffer and we would do anything to make them better if we could. Be strong for Vex. Please keep us posted.

Completely Boxer Crazy
Vex has Degenerative Myelopathy. A progressive disease fo the spinal cord that creates his loss of coordination behind. It also explains why he drags his feet, stands on the tops of he hind feet sometimes and why he pooped in bed. Eventually he will be unable to walk. There is no cure for the disease, there are lots of things people have tried but apparentley very seldomly does anything help. Its so hard b/c he came galloping into the bedroom this morning singing wanting on the bed. I asked the vet if it was time. She said that its a hard call especially with him being in such good spirits. So, we are going to give him small dosages of supedol (morephine) to make sure he is not in pain. She believes he is not in pain. I will not keep him if he loses his spark, looses control of his bowels or the ablility to be himself. There must be quality in his life. So he will be watched very carefully and hopfully he can enjoy a few more afternoons sunning himself on the grass. Thank-you for all your kind words. I will keep you updated. I so badly wanted him to go to the Boxer picnic on the 12th but I guess he will only be there in spirit. Suzie and Vex.

I am so sorry to hear of what you are going through. I just can't imagine the pain. Take comfort in knowing that you have some more time together and Vex knows that you love him and would only do what's best. You will remain in our thoughts and prayers.

It sounds like Vex is happy and in good spirits. Please bring him to the boxer picnic if only for a little while. He will probably have a good time. I will going even though I no longer have a boxer. I will be going taking my curly haired boxer. :)

So very sad for your baby. I wish too that there was a miracle drug to help him. I had a similiar situation about 15 years ago with my black nfld/lab mix when he was 14 years old. His back gave out and he could not get up when he would lie down. He was our children's first dog and was a wonderful pet. Both my husband and I both kept putting it off but the day finally came and we had to say goodbye. It's never easy but to see him suffer was even harder. Good luck and take care.
