I learned a lot about the rules and what happens when you break them by watching my parents and their boxer. unfortunately I have broken some of the same rules I said I wouldn't.
The crate trainng was a must as I knew at some point she'd be young and have to stay in the crate during the day while we were at work. It was successful and I didnt cave on that one. Only took a week or less to get her used to it. By i'd say 6 months old we quit making her sleep in the crate at night and had her only pillow and blanet by the window near the foot of our bed.
I swore no dog in the bed, its only a queen size and quite frankly its crowded enough with me and Mike in there. I'm going to think I made it till she was about a yr old and we started letting her sleep with occassionally. And I do mean occassionally. None during the week at all. usually fri and maybe sat night since we dont have to go to work. Because one or both of us is not going to get much sleep. last weekend was so funny! She started at the foot of the bed, then up behind my legs, could feel her inch up to around the middle of my back, and then i wake and she has her head on the pillow beside me and starring at mike as he wakes up. it was great! She does however not get on the bed unless invited first.
ABSOLUTELY no doggie on the couch. It has stuck and she is now a 1.5 yrs old.
ABSOLUTELY no begging at the kitchen table. This has stuck. She sees plates on the table she goes and lays down or recently she has started going to her food bowl and eats while we do. I will however on occassion feed her certain raw vegetables and fruits.
ABSOLUTELY the front drivers seat is off limits to her at least in my vehicle it is. She sits very lady like in the front passenger seat patiently waiting for me to take her to see her friends and such.
My mom comes by and takes her out for her midday break now that we are both gone for the day to work. I'm not quite comfortable leaving her out all day to have run of the house yet. So she flashes the cute smooshy face and my mom ends up taking her home for half the day to play with her boxer and then brings her back later since we live a couple blocks away.
