Sending tons of healing thoughts in hopes that the new regimen of heart meds affords Belle some relief. There is a Dr. Kate Meurs of Ohio State University that is doing a study on boxers with DCM - she would be more knowledable about the latest research and treatments available. Please do keep us posted ~ Cathy

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers. It means a lot to have so much support during this difficult time. Belle was very happy to be home last night, and was full or boxer kisses and wiggles for the kids. She even played with her toys, and took almost every toy out of the toy box and wouldn’t let us put them back. Belle just continues to amaze me with her spirit and joy of life. At this point, I cannot even consider ending things, although the cardiologist has painted a very grim picture. My husband has been out of town, and returns home tonight. I know Belle will be very happy to see her daddy, and I need him to be here as we come to terms with the latest development in Belle’s illness. Thanks again for all your kind words and support.

I'm sooooo sorry to hear about the latest development in Belle's ordeal. It just seems life is so unfair at times. Belle will tell you when it's her time, and that's what you have to listen to...Belle. And from what you say, and how you describe her...it doesn't sound like she's ready yet. I'll send tons of vibes and prayers your way! Please keep us posted.

Thinking of you at this difficult time, I think its one of the hardest things we have to do for our babies, Like every one says, and from our own experiance. I truly believe that if they have an illness they let you know when its time. Belle sound like she is such a trooper, still full of playfullness and lots love, I think it would be different if she was just laying in her crate with little energy and if she was showing any signs of her being in pain, right now that doesn't seem to be happening. Hope and Faith is all we have when our babies get sick, don't let go of either until you have too.
Keeping Belle and your family in our thoughts and prayers..
Sending lots of vibes & hugs and love your way..~ Vickie

We are going through the same thing with Apollo right now. He is doing well and has lasted a full year on the meds that Belle is currently on! It is so difficult with him being only 3 years old but he is strong and a survivor. He is on the same meds as Belle with Dilitiazem also. Our cardiologist has also recommended Pimobendan to try also. Please keep us posted on Belle's condition and her IMPROVEMENT!!! Our thoughts are with you!!!

It is with deep sadness that I tell you we lost our puppy Belle shortly after this post. We brought Belle home from the emergency hospital, but she just wasn't herself. It was hard to determine if she was acting differently from her heart problems or from all of the medications she was on. Belle's breathing seemed improved right after she returned home, but soon she began breathing rapidly and coughing, wouldn't eat and the look on her face just broke my heart. Our vet believed that Belle's breathing problems were coming from small pieces of the blood clot in her heart that were dislodging and settling into her lungs. With heavy hearts, we made the decision to end Belle's suffering and to help her to the bridge. I still find it so hard to believe that it only took three months for this horrible disease to take my puppy away from me. I miss her so much. I hope Apollo continues to do well. I have heard great things about Pimobendan. This drug has even been called a miracle drug for dogs with dilated cardiomyopathy/congestive heart failure. Our cardiologist wanted us to be able to obtain the drug with FDA approval, however, I have heard of many people whose vets order it from Canada. I have been told there is a "gray" area that allows them to do this. I have a link at home to a Canadian on-line pharamacy that I was referred to. I can post it if you are interested. Stay strong Apollo, we are sending healing vibes to you from Virginia!
