They think I'm nuts...

So Clover and I fly out next Monday and well today I was sending e-mail out and well I sent this to those who have been appoited POC's for little Clover if so some reason the airline can't get a hold of me. Now remember I'm coving all the bases, because you never know:

"Sheryl and Grammy you have been put down as Clover's POC for my trip there (you are authorized to take her to any vet, or to authorize American Airlines to take her to any vet should medical care be necessary - authorized amount of medical expenses is $5k - Clover is to be put on life support should that be deemed necessary until I can get to where she is) - Also, Melissa and Geoff I put you down as POC's for Clover (should something happen to her and they can't get a hold of me) for my return trip. Her Vet here is VCA Coast (On PCH in Hermosa Beach), Dr. Brown # XXXXX, Clover has an account there and they will just charge it to that - same as above, she is to be put on life support until I can get to her. If something drastic happens, Clover is to be cremated, and her ashes will be buried in the Pet Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio. Clover is up to date on all shots, only medical condition is her mange. She is microchipped with an AVID microchip."

Anyhow I'm now getting e-mails about what a nut I am for doing this. I just want to make sure that someone knows what to do incase something should happen. I thought for sure my boxerworld family would understand! Or at least understand why I was being a nut!

No, no, you aren't nuts at all! I had knee surgery 5 weeks ago and my mom stayed with me a couple days. On the way to the surgery center, I told her I had written up a bunch of info re Tae and what to do if something happened and left it on my dresser. I totally teared up and made my mother promise not to take her to an animal shelter if something happened to me. She was really sweet about it and said of course she wouldn't (she and my dad don't want another dog right now--haven't had one in 12 1/2 years).

I think it's very important to have contact people. You would for your skin kid.

Good thinking--I have kept all of Titan's medical records in a folder and if I ever need to leave him for any reason- the person caring for him will be given the folder which also lists his normal daily schedule, food preferance and eating schedule, his likes/dislikes, what he is allowed and not allowed to do. If for some awful reason I am unable to care for Titan or if I am no longer here, although we live with my parents still I have asked my brother and his family to take Titan to live at their house. Titan's sister lives with them and I think he would be happy with her--plus they dont have any rules at their house--he could actually sleep on the couch----but shhhh...dont tell him that!! LOL

P.S. Would be nice if they had something similar to the human medical alert bracelet/necklaces that our pups could keep on their collars or somewhere when traveling in the car or by plane. That would list any medicines, conditions, or in my case I'd have: Please rush to nearest vet and do all necessary work.

Cinnamons rabies tag is somethign like a medic alert bracelet. The company that makes them also sets up a free website- after vaccination of course- where you can set up a profile for your animal..include picture contact information description and any medical conditions/treatments. So if shes ever found and for some reason her ID tag isnt on all the people have to do is type in the website listed on the tag, put in the clinic phone number and tag number (both listen on the tag) and up pops Cins profile

That sounds cool--Titan's tag just has his vet's name and # on it. Plus if he ever loses the collar (or someone takes it off) it's kinda useless. I am looking into the microchip deal however at our next vet visit.

I don't see anything wrong with that!! We have a folder for each one of our fur kids with any and all medical info! And when we left the two we left a schedule diets medications, walks etc and still called to check in twice a day!!! Dogs are just like kids they rely on us to take the best care of them that we can.

Don't ask US if we think you're crazy. We'd all do the same thing and if we call you crazy.. then we're ALL crazy!

Good thinking though.. We've left the dogs here a couple of times for a few days while on vacation and never thought to leave any info like that. Half the time I forget to leave medical info for the skin kids..

Not crazy.

My mom has already offered to take in my furbabies if anything was to happen to me. She said she wouldn't have it any other way (since they are mine she would want them with her). She knows how I take care of them and how I want them to be cared for plus my parents just adore them.

My mom has also made it a point to let everyone know that they will be buried at the family plot (cremated of course at my request). They are family afterall.

But it is a good idea to keep all records and a list of information and rules for others to follow if you are unable to care for them anymore. I will have to do this as soon as possible. You just never know.
