They still want Quimby

We took Quimby in as a foster and he stole my heart right away. Our vet who does Boxer Rescue, put him up on her list and got a quick response. One person sounded great, they had a female boxer to keep him company and a couple of kids for him to play with. Quimby was not neutered so we needed to get his medical needs taken care of first. During his visit to the vet, she discovered he had a heart murmur and removed a mast cell tumor. At that time we decided he probably was not adoptable and Quimby became a member of our family. I just heard from our vet that the people are still interested, they would like to set up a meeting. It has been less then a month since Quimby came into our lives but I don't know if I can let him go. My husband still thinks two is enough. He is leaving the decision up to me. I don't know what to do. It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.

Sounds like Quimby is already a member of your family.

I adopted one of my fosters. I just couldn't imagine him leaving. It is hard to say goodbye to all of them as you get very attached, but this was different.

It took me awhile to decide only becauseI had to consider his needs as well as my other two boxer's needs. It changes a lot by way of attention and time with them. They once got 1/2 of me now only get 1/3. Examples: trips to the feed store, classes at the training club, trips to the beach etc.

Be very sure you can still care for everyone as they deserve and of course that your husband is on board.

Good luck! I've been there, it was really tough the few days I took to decide. There is a lot to weigh in my opinion.

That is my hardest struggle, what is best for all three. Rosie one of my girls seems to be left out more. Sydney and Quimby play together more often. Syd and Quimby also are more attention hungry and will push their way in. Rosie will end up walking away. She has never been the velcro dog Syd is, but seems even more stand-offish. I try and spend some special time with just her but she is becoming more of a loner. This worries me.
She does play with the other two and she still snuggles in bed with us, but I can see a difference in her. Hubby is OK with what ever I decide. Thank you for your support. It's comforting to know there are people who share my feelings.

Oh, I know how you feel! I always want to adopt our fosters!

Luckily for me, my female hasn't liked any of them and we have to separate all of them. I say luckily because if we adopted another, I would no longer be able to foster. Right now fostering is very important to me.

I make sure the families are perfect though ... and it does hurt when they first get adopted. You just have to tell yourself that he's going to the best home and that he will be loved. But it still hurts.

I know it's a tough decision, but whatever decision you reach will be the right one. I know somewhere down the road is going to be that perfect foster that's just going to fit in so well that I can't let him go!

My first reaction was Oh keep him but I think you answered your own question when you talked about Rosie.
IF this family is a good match then it is probably best for all to let him go.
Your husband sounds like a keeper.:D

After giving this a lot of thought, I told Dr. Liz to go ahead and arrange a meeting. I feel if the people are still interested in Quimby, knowing he may have medical problems in the future, they must be very special. If they are the right family for him I will let him go. I also told her if they do not work out then Quimby was meant to be with us and we will keep him. Is this a cop out on my part? The family lives 2-3 hours from me so I'm not sure when we will meet. I will just give Quim all the loving I can for now. Tanya22 my husband is a keeper
