I AM SO SICK and I do mean SICK of people thinking that our dogs are pittbulls. To me they look nothing like pitts. For starters pitts have tails and boxers tails are docked. People are just so ignorant. We have 2 pups one female and one male, Emma the female is 13 weeks old and is tiger-striped and Jinx the male is 21 weeks old and fawn. Yesterday we took Jinx with us to the park to watch some baseball games. We do live in Cleveland where there is an abundance of pittbulls walking around but that just makes people's ignorace even worse. Well back to yesterday we had jinx on his leash like a good dog owner should and we walked up to where there was a baseball game going on. Everyone immeadiately starting looking at us, but usually that doesnt surprise us cuz boxers are beautiful dogs and we always get compliments on our puppies. I was sitting on the ground with jinx he was not bothering anyone and he wouldnt even if he could cuz he is the nicest dog ever. This lady walked up and was like does that dog bite, i was like NO! he is very friendly. she asked if her son could pet him and i said yes. A few minute later these little kids started to come up to us. JInx loves little kids so of course he wanted them to pet him and to give them kisses well the kids mother turned around and looked at jinx and started yelling for her kids to get away from him she walked right up to me and said to her children right in front of me that he was really wound up and that he would bite them, that pittbulls aren't nice dogs and that they had to get away from him. I saw a lady tell another lady that her husband was going to tell the cops that we had a pittbull, and we actually saw the man walk over. Of course the cop didnt say anything to us b/c he probably had a brain and realized that Jinx was not a pitt. Jinx is our first boxer and this is all such a shock to us that people are so ignorant. I mean to come up to me and say that stuff to my face when my dog was on a leash which i was holding very tight to me and sitting on the ground next to me. she should have been watching her children. It just hurt my feelings b/c wouldnt hurt a fly. Have any of you had similar problems with people mistaking your boxer for pitts?? If so it would really ease our frustrations.

If you do a search for "pitbulls", you can read many stories from folks who have had similar experiences to yours...they are many threads about this.
For what its worth, my opinion on the issue is that the best thing you can do is try to educate the people you come in contact with that think this way. Politely say, this is my boxer, named ****. He/she is really friendly and we love him/her a lot!

i agree with lettilooney

Great opportunity to educate the masses!

I even get down on my knees and explain it to the children.

They call me "boxer lady" at the neighborhood park......not "pit bull lady", because they have all been told...."these are not pit bulls, they are boxers, and they love people." (Explained while they are licking the children's faces!)
