What is this 101 stuff? I've seen it mentioned on here when you lot talk about training. Educate me please, Lol

I think this is answering your question:

any reference to "101" means going back to the basics. So the phrase "potty training 101" means going back to the basics of potty training.

(Many times in designating college courses (here in the states), the courses are listed with titles for example :
English 101, Math 101 in the course listing books as being the first in a series of classes. The next being English 102 etc.)

Colby is just about 6 months old and I posted on training issues b/c I seriously thought something was wrong with him! Over the past few days, he's turned into a complete spazz! He's always been very docile and calm and now he's a maniac! He is getting even more energy, if that's possible! He's up to 9:00 p.m. playing and running around like a maniac. Then he finally tires out and lays down to rest until we got to bed. He keeps going into the neighbor's yard and then when I try to get him back, he just runs around our yard like a maniac! As long as we're not the only ones, I feel better! Now I know my dog's not possessed or anything bad like that!
It would be nice if this only lasted for a week or so!

I can't even tell you how relieved I am that Colby's not the only crazy dog! He's been pretty good tonight, knock on wood. I've tried wearing him out by playing frisbee and then going for a walk. He's resting quietly now, so I'm hoping he's down for the count for a while! He's not yet (and I stress yet) violated any of his animals, although he's quite fond of his monkey. God help me the day he does! I'll have a stroke!

I am sorry Sara, hopefully things are getting better. I read the post initially and laughed to myself because Duke is the same way so I didn't think it was appropriate to respond!

I just can't believe Clover would act like that?!?!? After the story last year with the paint (was it?) I can't believe she would put you through this! I just wish Duke was half as good as Clover!

The true beauty of this thread is that it makes us all realize that we are not alone, and that our dogs aren't the absolute worst devils ever created!
Perhpas it is a rite of passage, much like our own skin teens go through.
(My mother always said just to put a paper bag over their heads and take it off when they reached 18, and they would be completely different people)

For all the work and frustration they cause us, tomorrow we are laughing about it. (Well, perhaps, the next day)

I posted int he terrible two's also...after I posted Guinness also decided to forget his potty training, only a couple times thank goodness! His barking, which he never ever did is also almost unmanagable. He is only content when he is with other dogs... and is so exhausted he passes out which has become our goal every day...We are starting another obedience class Monday to help enforce his training...that should be interesting since he doesn't listen anymore....

None of you are alone. Rooney is 7 1/2 months old, 51 1/2 lbs. and has started terrorizing anything that can't get away from him. It took him about 4 months to shred his first dolly, his bed buddy. Now he figured out how to shred his kennel pillow in about 5 minutes. This was a big pillow too. There's not a plant in the yard that is safe. He uproots the ones in pots and then shreds the pots. He spreads out the woodpile all over the back yard. A couple of nights ago, he had parts of my shop-vac strewen all over. My kids had used it and forgot to put it away. Rooney found it, felt like it didn't need all of that stuff to run, and scattered it all over. He is in constant movement, we call it sharking, nose down sniffing like a madman. That's why he has the big knot on his head, he keeps running into things. A friend of ours says that means he's smart. We call it his safety bumper. He's become picky with his food. We do not feed him people food either. It sounds like we're lucky on the bathroom issues though. No relapse there yet, knock on wood! Then, as if a switch were thrown, he comes and flops down by us and returns to the lovable bonehead that he is. He's a piece of work!

I haven't been on in a while and the first place that I come on here is to this thread. Funny how that is........Trigger is now what I am calling a "pistol". UGH! He has decided that every plant that I have gingerly and lovingly brought back to life with my own hands are his enemies. He has tore up the plants and broken the pots. My skinkid just turned 3 at the end of August, Pappy went and bought him a brand new bike, shiny and all, he hasn't figured out how to pedal though. He left it outside last night after attempting to ride it and Trigger thought the seat was his new chew toy!! He also tore up our Tiki stick!! I am hoping that this phase passes soon. Although he hasn't really gotten out of the potty 101, he is doing better. I am hoping that more attention, loves, whatever will speed up the process of him moving OUT of these teenaged years.

It still melts my heart when he tilts his head to the side and looks at me with those big brown eyes. *Sigh*
