Here's the deal. Wednesday when I got home from work, Bo smelled like a big, fat rotten egg . He had been outside playing most of the day so I figured he just needed a bath so I gave him one. Well, yesterday when I got home, he stunk again, but this time he smelled worse! I was so tired yesterday that I didn't want to give him a bath again so I just dealt with the smell all night. It was so bad that I wouldn't even let him in my bed! On nights that I'm too tired to bathe him is there anything that I can put on him to mask the smell? I even tried putting baby powder on him thinking that would make it a little better, but then he just smelled like powdered poop. Also, I didn't think it was good to bathe them every night, but if he keeps smelling like he does then I won't have a choice.

What is the smell from ? It just seems odd becsue my dogs never smell and they get about 2 baths a year. So there may be a problem that you need to address that is causing the smell. Any ideas what its from ?

I would have to agree with Adelle, Rio is only bathed every four to five months and has no significant or offensive oder, unless of course he has eaten something disagreeable <wink>.

The only other time of noticed anything is if he is anxious or under threat he will give off a stronger "doggie" oder but that dissipates rather quickly when the situation is alleviated.

Is this something that has just started or has it been ongoing since you've owned your dog? I would look into trying some different foods and then if it continues, see your vet as this may be some kind of chemical imbalance.

Best of luck!

It's from him being outside and playing with my neighbor's dog. The reason I'm probably smelling it on him more now than ever is because it is getting hot outside so that is making the odor stronger. These silly pups roll around all over the yard when they are together so I don't even want to think about what they could be rolling in.

Otis is outside when the weather is nicer while we are at work/school. He rarely "stinks" unless he's cut the cheese. :D

When he does have an odor, we have these dog wipes that we use for between baths. The are great and very gentle on his skin and fur. I got them first at Petsmart, then started ordering them from JB Wholesale (www.jbpet.com). They come in really handy.

I would look into the source of the odor. The only time Otis reeked was when I was giving him a clove of garlic everyday....WhooWee! did he smell. Once I stopped that, his b/o went away too.

Good Luck!

Oh yeah, Otis gets bathed about 4 times a yr...maybe 5 depending on what he's gotten into.

I think that may be the source of your smell problems! I have bought the wet wipes for dogs to wipe katies feet when visiting grandma (red clay there) and they work really well. i get mine from wal-mart.

Good Luck!

Do you know where the source of the odor is? Is it on his back, legs???
The reason I ask is I started to smell a strange odor comming from Harley a while ago. I also figured it was from playing outside. I bathed him and he smelled fine for 1 day. The smell returned and it seemed to be mainly comming from his hind legs. I still just thought he sat in something outside, but brought him to the vet because I couldn't get rid of/or cover up the smell. He had a glandular infection which caused the smell which required antibiotics and daily rinses.
If the smell continues I would investigate further ;) .

If it is only happening after you let him inside, I would take a good look around your yard. Anna would come home after getting a fresh bath only to smell like "rotton eggs" again. I finally found out that she was finding a dead rabbit out back and "playing" with it. So gross, I know, but when we got rid of the rabbit, we got rid of the smell.

Im just wondering while your dogs is outside playing with the neighbors dog is anybody supervising them? I don't think it's safe to assume that the odor is coming from the hot weather and by rolling all over the yard. If this is the case then every summer we will be hearing complaints from pet owner about the odor of their pet but i don't think that's the case here. I suggest taking your puppy to the vet and get him/her examine. Puppies are susceptible to a lot of virus and infections and they can get it by eating something, sniffing something or by playing with other dogs.
