Okay I have noticed a bump on the inside part of Baxters leg. It is not under the skin it is actually on the skin and is looks like a one of his nipples (but mind you it is on his leg!) and it has like a little wart looking thing on the end of it. I also noticed one by his penis that is black and raised. My vet is closed tomorrow and open for emergencies only (which this is not an emergency I know) so we will have to wait until Monday...but until then does anyone have some advice for me so that I am not worried sick all weekend over this? I looked up mast cell tumors and that freaked me out but the pictures on the web really didn't look like this but then again you never know. What do the rest of you think???? Can I ever stay out of the vets office...I think I should rent a room there :)

Have it checked, but sometimes nipples are misplaced :) One of my boys has them on the base of his penis - freaked me out, too, until I looked closely (and realized that there was one on each side!)

Try to think positive, boxers are prone to all kinds of benign bumps. I was so scared in November when I had the wartlike bump removed from Gilroy's foot, but it was OK.
The vet told me I could just watch it for awhile, or have it removed and examined. There was no way I wasn't going to have it removed! I wouldn't have slept a wink, staring at the bump all night for months, waiting for it to change.
At times like this, I wish we all had digital cameras so we could exchange pictures of the various lumps and bumps more readily.
Best wishes, and let us know how it goes. I'll be thinking of you.

Speaking of extra nipples, or supernumeraries.... My son has one! He has a third nipple about two inches below the normal one. It's small, and not that noticible, but I wonder what'll happen if he gets a really hairy chest?
The docs said we can have it removed at any time, if it bothers him socially, but he thinks it's kind of neat - and I'm glad.

hello aimee. just last tuesday i had 3 bumps removed off of spanky. i just found out that 1 of them was hamangioma (i may have spelled that wrong) and the other 2 were mast cell tumors. grade 1 and benign. i think you responded to my prednisone question just recently. they are probably alright. as we all know boxers are prone to skin problems. and lumps. i would say definitely get them checked out. just to be safe...

Extra Human Nipples

Linda,

As long as we're talking about skin babies as well...let me share a similar story you may want to consider. My stepdaughter has two extra nipples...they are just nipples, and although she is 18, never did anything more than look like moles... When my son was born, he appeared to have an extra nipple right on his aereola...I mentioned it to his pediatrician, and said my husband must be the carrier, since two of his children have them with different mothers. My pediatrician said that my son's "nipple" is actually not a nipple...since they are generally exactly where the vestigal nipples would've been way way way back when we all had rows like our canine friends do now. In other words...if it doesn't line up with his other nipples, my doc at least, says it's a (harmless) cyst, and not a nipple...just something else to consider. Obviously, I'm not a doctor and haven't seen your son!! :) Thanks

Interesting! I'm sure glad your stepdaughter's didn't develope. (!!)
The doctor confirmed that my son's is an extra nipple, and you're right, it's right in line with the other one, about 3 inches lower. I guess now I feel lucky he doesn't have 8! That might not be so cool.
