The master of the Guilt Trip!

We have a policy at our house that Rio gets the last bite off each of our plates. However he must stay a reasonable distance from the table and not beg.

Now another habit we have is that if I'm watching TV and I lay across the coach with my back against the arm, he hops up with his tail a whirling and lays across my chest with resting his head on me while I massage the base of his ears. To this he often makes that cute little happy snort that I've come to love so much.

Well, I noticed every once in a while he'd be sitting over on the other couch with his head turned just out of site. I'd call him to come cuddle and he'd glance at me quickly and then gaze back the other way. No matter how many times I'd call to him I'd get the same pathetic response (I must admit it is kind of cute!). I finally noticed the connection one day that this behavior usually ensued when I had not given him my last bite or that he had deemed it inadequate.

He has me fairly well trained now but I laugh out loud every time I think of that shaming posturing he is ooooooooh so good at; I even kind of miss it!

Any other guilt trip stories out there?

Be well,
Wayne

That is so very typical! My katie gives a good guilt trip, Whenever i wont play with her immediately, or wont give her stuff off my plate (chili peppers are not a dogs best friend!) she will sit at my feet and give me the " i am an abused dog" look! it just cracks me up! she wont even look me in the eye, then if i dont cave, she gives a great big "huff" and then lays down continuing with the "abused dog" routine! What nuts these little babies are! such interesting and entertaining personalities! :D

Ronin plays this little game also. He'll lay his head on my lap, and just move his eyes in the direction of the item that he wants  He'll look at me and the given item over and over, until I get up and find out what he wants. Usually food. If he wants to play, he's not so subtle. He starts barking, "growling" and pecking me. He's such a toad but always makes me laugh!

Oh my Gosh!! I have a 1 year old boxer and a 3 month old one, and when i am playing with the baby, my 1 year old Angel will knock the little one out the way, and won't even come to me when I call her. Almost like I betrayed her or something. But the love each other to death, I guess Angel just feels that she gets first dibs.

When my little man turned 2, I told my wife we should get another boxer. Logan was bonded to me, so I figured maybe the other one would bond with her. So we go to the breeder and see the perfect puppy. Calm, behaved, and very loving just like Logan. So she's the one we pick. We come back a few weeks later to pick up Mitka. Well we bring Mitka home and at first Logan was excited to see a puppy came to visit. He was so happy. Then later when he realized that she wasn't leaving was when the guilt trip came. He gave me a look like, I'm being replaced. So I walk over to pet him and I get a look that says "Oh now you love me". Logan walks away. So I follow to pet him. Same "Oh now you love me" look and he walks away. I figure a treat is the way to win him back. I pull out a treat offer it to Logan and I get a look like "Not going to work this time traitor". Logan walks away. So my wife say to me "Boy, he's mad at us." No kidding. Then it hits us. He's mad at me. So my wife goes to pet him. He stays there. She gets a treat, he takes it. So I think he's over it. I try to pet him, same guilt look and walks away. Try the treat again, same reaction as before. Wife tries again. He stays and takes a treat. This went on for 2 months. I must say I've never felt as bad as I did during those 2 months. I was crushed. My little man was mad at me and didn't want anything to do with me. Well 2 months almost to the day, Logan walks up to me while I'm on the couch and gives me a kiss. I must say that was a great way to end 2 months of the cold shoulder.

It's so funny, I complain b/c Mason constantly wants to lay on top of me and I never have a moments peace then when he is angry with me and ignores me I get upset. I guess us humans don't know how good we have it with our boxers until the boxers are mad at us!!! LOL

Cody did the same thing to my bf when we brought home Duke. Jon, the bf, would call Cody's name and he would just ignore him and literally turn his back on him. Cody stayed right by my side the first couple of days and wanted nothing to do with Jon! I loved it, because I got all the attention. Jon took care of Duke and I focused on Cody. It worked out well and now they are buddies. Sometimes when Duke wants to play and Cody doesn't want to I can see Cody saying to me "Why did you bring him here? Everything was great before he was here." I definitly know the guilt trip!!!

When they flash those sad brown eyes you just can't refuse them. Oscar also literaly sticks his bottom lip out when he's pouting. Such sweet babies.

Oh absolutely. Louie is so emotional, he's like living with a woman with permanent PMS.
My friend had some of that keyboard duster stuff, you know that comes out freezing cold if it's tipped upside down? Well, Louie's butt was facing him, and he gave him a quick spray of that stuff on his hind leg.... Louie was SO mad at him that he just turned his back, sat right in front of him, and would NOT turn around. He kept calling him "Louuuuie, come here buddy... I'm sorry" and he just sat there with his nose in the air and totally ignored him.
