The Embarassment...

We moved to IL from FL about a year and a half ago, and have been in the same house for a while. This last Christmas that just passed our family members came over for dinner, well I guess Duke had other plans. Duke LOVES people! Our couch is like in the shape of an "L", I'm not sure WHY, but Duke started at one end of the couch, lifted his leg, urinated, and hopped all the way to the other side of the cough, peeing on everyone! I was so humiliated, and it's not the first time we had people in the house, and they don't have any dogs at home.

Dasia our 9 month young Boxer does the same thing when she sees certain people. She doesn't do it to all but occasionally when she sees our friend Ace she gets overly excited and while wiggling and kidney beaning she will start to pee as well. :(

She is potty trained and hasn't had an accident in the house in over 3 months however when she sees certain people she gets overly excited and will pee. We have corrected this by taking her out to "pee" before she is greeted by people.

I heard that this is a submissive behavior....or can be just that they have a full bladder and when overly stimulated they can not control their bladder..i guess sort of like when you have to pee and you are laughing so hard you almost do. *shrug* umm not that this has ever happened to me just ummm hypothetical. *cough* :D

I do agree with the embarassing part. :o

It may not be funny now....

But years from now you may see the humor in it. I remember when I was a kid and I had a boxer. We went to the nearby waterfront and was with another family cooking out and having a great time. Then all of a sudden Chico (boxer) walked over to my girlfriend who was playing in the sand with me. He lifted his leg and peed on her. We can laugh at it now but when it happened we just couldn't figure it out and it never happened again.

Yes some dogs like the previous post stated will pee when they are excited.. But you story didn't sound like it was a nervous reaction. It seems like he was marking his territory.:p

I can imagine being embarassed, but I think if Lou ever did that, I would die laughing. I would tell everyone, "you are all now property of Lou." LOL. Sounds like he was just showing everyone who's couch they were sitting on.

Sounds to me like he didnt like those people on HIS couch and was trying to piss them off. Did it work? :D
