Hey Guys,
I just borrowed The Dog Listener from my friend and have been reading non stop since yesterday. What a insightful perspective she has!! I thought it was really interesting but I wondered if it really worked. It is hard to believe that all a dog's problems can be solved with Amichien bonding. It just sounds too easy.
I know a lot of people swear by this method of training but I was wondering how many of you have REALLY went through all the four steps in the Amichien bonding and had it actually transform their relationship with their dogs??
I'm going to implement it and would love to hear anyone else''s experiences with it.
Thanks, Lori

This thread may help you in your query. http://boxerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=20485&highlight=Fennell+Listener

I use the bonding technique with every training client I have. I see results in 3 to 4 weeks with every single client. Yes, it sounds too easy to be effective, but it truly DOES work and you will be amazed at the change in your dog if applied consistently and as instructed in the book.

Additionally, all of my clients are truly amazed after 3 to 4 weeks of working how quickly the dog starts to learn all of the other commands and work we do. In fact, a client today had their second session with me. After 2 weeks of merely working on the bonding and watch me commands, the 12 year old boy who is training the dog for the family, reported today that it definitely is "working" and that the dog has stopped jumping on him totally, stopped nipping, comes when called (unless too distracted -- still a puppy) and has even learned to sit and stay during those two weeks. The dog was 75% more calm and never nipped me either this time. He jumped on me a couple of times and then stopped. So, I see this kind of progress nearly every week with each client.

To answer your question: Yes, it works! Give it a try and you will see for yourself.

I was looking for the book today ....all the books stores were out.so I went to the library ....they had it..I checked it out ....:) I have 4 weeks ...which should be long enough.....I also saw it on ebay...!

I've read a few pages ..I will start Amichien Bonding ..asap ....I want to be the Alpha.....!!!
The hardest part for me ...is not giving him attention when I come in the front door.....he is so happy to see me ....But I will do it ...wait the 5 minutes....because I am the Alpha..!
Getting him to sit still in puppy class is a different story ...!

how do you pronounce "amichien"???

just curious if anyone knows the correct way to pronounce this word?? I figure if I have to explain what I'm doing to other people I might as well be saying it right--LOL.

"Amichien" is just a combination of the French words for "friend" (ami) and "dog" (chien), so I suppose you'd pronounce them in the French way, just run together. Ah-mee-shee-un. (Not necessarily four distinctly separate syllables, and I personally would put the emphasis on the "mee" sound.)

I just read the book also and was going to ask the same question. I'm not keen on the ignoring when I get home bit, but I'm more than prepared to do it.........now I just have to convince hubby and all visitors to do the same

How are you going with it so so far Lori?

The Dog Listener

I am writing this message to completely endorse the AMAZING experience we have had with the book The Dog Listener.

After posting on this site about aggression/alpha issues with our boxer, Cowboy - Tulsa Dan recommended this, along with several other books (we started with this book), and it has been nothing short of miraculous.

Our dog is turning into a happy -go-lucky dude!! He had been very protective, even refusing to let us out the house on occassion, had become a growly with our daughter (on one occassion showing outright aggression), always had to enter a rioom before us, the whole deal.

Within 24 hour hours - by removing his need to be alpha, by establishing ourselves as Alpha he has become so much more relaxed, and playful, for the first time in about a year he has rolled onto his back willingly and been completely submissive for belly rubs. UNBELIEVABLE.

Now - of couse it has only been 24 hours and we are only half-way through the book, but we started with the basic technique of completely ignoring him when he is being wild and demanding - he has ripped a pair of my sweatpants tugging on the leg! He was desperate for me to acknowledge him as alpha - but I kept on with the technique (hubby as well), and it has been nothing short of amazing.

I just wanted to endorse this book with ANYONE having any short of control issues/aggression and just give it a try. You can order it on amazon.com

For his improved behavior we rewarded him with a new toy called a giggly wiggly - it is HYSTERIcal - he loves it and plays a good hour of fetch in teh afternoon!
