Hi Guys,

We will be getting our puppy in just under 4 weeks and have a few questions.

Over the first month my wife and I will both be off work so can really focus on the early training of our new puppy. We have a crate and one thing we find a bit confusing is how to use it an an early age.

When the puppy is not out eating, going to toilet or playing with us, do you leave the crate door open for him to wonder in the area we are in, around the cage etc (obviously out of bounds areas blocked off) or do you put him back in his cage? This just seems like an awful lot of time he will be penned up.

Secondly I have seen video of how you build up his comfort of the cage, luring him in with food then over time closing the door etc. What I am confused by is that when we bring him home surly we want him to use the cage straight away to start house training him. How do you work the crate and the dog those first few weeks?

Cheers Guys
