I also have a black and white boxer. He is now 2yrs. old. When he turned about 1yr. old he started to show just a little brown on his shoulders. From what I was told from the breeder he is a reverse brindle. The brindle is only noticable on his shoulders, and you have to look pretty hard. He's built, plays, and smells like any other boxer I've seen or owned. As far as being purebred, I did have a problem of getting him registered as that color. They requested several pictures of him before they would register him, and at the end he was registered as black, white, and tan. Even though there is no tan to be seen on him.

Is that AKC registration? That's just what we need, them creating a new "rare" type of Boxer, black, white & tan.

Maybe the ABC should handle these types of questions - they at least know what the colors are called!

Black boxer

they exsisted in history i have a male pup who is black... his parents are black. There is evidence that there was such a thing, so why can't it come back ? you can see pics of my pup at http://amysboxers.8m.com His name is Gage Coal I also found an old pic on a website of blacks..here is the link http://www.molossermania.com/boxer/
There was such a thing, but it had a very strong gene that would have knocked all other colors out. Anyone who is doing research on the Black Boxer please email me ... I am doing the same thing, maybe we can help each other out. :)

It can't come back w/out the help of another breed but then you wouldn't have a pure bred Boxer. To have a pure bred black Boxer would be impossible since the black gene is not carried by the breed. They existed in the past because of crossing them with another breed. They might have looked like a Boxer but their black coat proved different.:(

First let me say i don't know much about boxers yet, I am learning on here though!
But I have read many discussions on "black", there is a thread called "I have a serious question about color".
What I have read is, there is no real black boxers, Not saying your boxers are not real....I guess they are reverse brindles, black base, very few dark fawn stripes. I don't know, I've never saw one. I heard the alleged black boxers from the old days were actually a mix...boxer/black shnouzer. (sorry can't spell)
I personally have no idea, I guess if the dog looks black you would call it black!
Good Luck with your search on info!

Hi,

We've got one of those black boxers, too. Only if youlook real close, she's not really black, she's reverse brindle that didn't quite come out right. haha. She's too dark to be considered properly colored, but she's registered and even better than that, she's got a great temper & personality.

We get questions, too about her breeding & whether she's "part pit" or not. It doesn't help that she's a little over weight (give her a break, she's 7) and stocky. When people are rude about it, I just tell them that she is part pit & may bite their leg off if they do not go away. (more likely it would be ME biting the leg off!)

Have fun with her & don't worry about it! (Wouldn't breed her, though b/c it really would not contribut anything to the breed.)
