The Cat came back the very next day....

ahhh i need help!! Theres this kitten..maybe about 4 months old..very cute and friendly little thing that just showed up at my house one day and wont go away. Today was the first time in the week hes been coming that we've actually made contact with him when i picked him up andbrought him away from my house. My dogs don't like cats and its always in our backyard. We've never fed it or anything so I don't know what its attraction with us is. It has to belong to someone because he has a collar on and hes not at all afraid of dogs. I was in our washroom this morning which is at the front of our house and i could hear a cat meowing..I lookedout the window and what do i see.. the cat sittin at the end of our sidewak.I yelled at it to go away and went downstairs to chase it away.. and ther it was sittin on my door step looing in at my dogs trying to get in my house.

Any ideas as to how to get rid of it. I know that it belongs to someone..at least thats what the collar makes me think. But if it doesnt go away..Im tempted to catch it and find someone who will keep it indoors and give it to them.

Maybe you could put some signs up around the neighborhood that there has been a kitten hanging around your house. Put his colors, color of collar, ect. Hopefully someone is missing him and will give you call to get him home! Good Luck!

I would suggest that you call animal control! I know that it sucks to think of another animal in a shelter, but perhaps if this cat is owned (he's wearing a collar, so more than likely, someone is missing him) the owners may be calling the shelter regularly to search for him.
Also, a word of caution. It does not take a domesticated cat very long to adopt it's natural wild instincts when on the streets alone, especially a young cat. Stray cats can carry infectious diseases that can easily be passed on to your doggies, as well as humans! My nieghbors daughter was infected with ring-worm she contracted from a stray she picked up! We have soooo many strays around here! They tear up my garbage every night, poo in my yard and spray all over everything!! One stray is about the size of a Lynx...very intimidating...aggressive! He will not back off when I approach it or the dogs and in fact has tried to attack my dogs on several occassions as well as my 13yr old son! I called animal control and they picked it up.
Also, several years ago (approx.20yrs) my mother found a stray cat in her garage. It was probably about 6-8mths old. She tried to shoo it out and it scratched her under the arm. About 15yrs after that, my mother had a lump growing under the arm. She saw a doctor who did a biopsy and she was told she had "Cat Scratch Fever". I know that sounds funny...but it is true. She had to have the lump removed, which in turn has caused some nerve damage in her arm. The doctor explained that it is a viral infection that if left undetected, could become life-threatening...infection travelling to the brain!!
There are many reasons to be careful with stray cats, even if they seem friendly! Just some words of caution, but IMO, you should contact the animal control in your area. Good luck!

Seems as if the little guy is just trying to get attention and since you are providing it in whatever form (picking it up, yelling at it etc...) it keeps returning.

If at all possible could you try taking it to a shelter? Asking around the neighborhood if anyone knows who it belongs to or looking in local newpapers for a missing ad? The fact that it has a collar shows that someone cared enough about it to provide this. I am sure that it's people are worried sick about it being missing.

It's been helpful reading this post. After moving in to my new place a preggers kitty started hanging outside my apartment...and I didn't even feed it. Well it's getting cold and I'm so afraid she or the kittens won't make it. I had made up my mind to take her to the vet or shelter and she hasnt' come around since. :( but if she does I have great advice from everyone here answering your question. Thanks!!!

yup, well i finally found out who owns the kitten. And i told her to keep it in the house because myd ogs were gonnna get ahold of it one day..and I also told her he keeps trying to get into my house..She laughed. So i told her i was being serious and if my dogs get ahold of it, shed be coming to clean up the mess. The next day i get to work ( i work at a community center literally behind my house) and whats sitting at the door of the community center.. the damn cat.
