The sunlight is fading, and darkness is near,
I wait by the window the gravel to hear,
When I see you approach, my spirits run high,
But then I feel guilty, go upstairs with a sigh,
For I did a bad thing, rooted in the trash today,
Coffee grounds in the carpet, knowing what you will say,
You come in the house, and stare at the floor,
Start yelling at me, and kick me out the door,
Because I am a "bad dog."

I really don't know why you treat me this way,
I've been waiting for you to come home and play,
Worrying that you may not come home to me,
I become very upset, jump on your bed to pee. . .
Mabye I am a "bad dog."

Thinking back 3 years, when your mother did die,
I was right there beside you, when you wanted to cry,
Next year when father collapsed and died on the floor,
I knew you were broken, and needed me more...
Then when Aaron was suddenly taken from me,
I sat in his room my paw on your knee....

People keep leaving not ever coming back,
I know they are gone, but understanding I lack,
So when you drive off to work or to play,
Think of me here alone, the most of the day,
Thinking mabye that you will not make it home to me,
It will be your time to go, your face never again to see,
So, what if I get upset, and make a small mess,
I only have you, and I must confess,
That I worry and love you so much it is true,
The destruction I cause is my profound love for you,
I have carried you through all of life, the thick and the thin,
But it is so hard for me to keep it all in,
I have to release the pain that is inside of me,

I wish you would look into my sad eyes and see. . . .

That I am not a "bad dog."

Bad Dog

This poem made me cry. I think of all the poor little furbabies that are left at home sometimes in an old hot garage without food and water or tied to a doghouse or tree and left there, their whole life just sitting there waiting for a kind word or even a slight touch from their masters hand, and some when they do see their master only gets yelled at or beat for jumping and being so *hyper*. I know of a lot of furbabies in these circumstances and I think WHY do people even get them, their lives are only as good as the owner will let them be. :(

Thank you for posting this...it is a wonderful reminder. (However it is WAY to early in the day to be crying....) sleepicon

This too brought tears to my eyes. Very touching. I read it to my husband and he's going to share it with 2 of his co-workers who also have boxers. Thanks for sharing your poem.

Your poem was very touching. I am going to share it with a co-worker that has a new boxer puppy. She just lost a boxer a few weeks ago.

Such a great poem. To think that I got mad at my big baby tonight for getting in the trash knowing that he had been by himself more then normal today, shame on me. He will definetly be getting extra loves.

Thanks To All For the Kind Compliments!!!!

I was inspired to write this poem for all boxer lovers to enjoy, and to help everybody understand why your baby does these things. Rusty always got into the trash when I was gone, and I continually scolded him for doing it. Only later, when I talked to a trainer about behavior problems, did I realize what was happening. Dogs have stress too, and they feel so much more and know so much more than you might think. Rusty has been with me through 3 deaths, a year apart, and has always been there to console me. I only realized that he worried about me too, when I was gone, that mabye I may not be coming back. Since then, I have not scolded Rusty for doing naughty things, instead I have given him much more love, knowing that he only loves me and has to let the stress out in some form--just like we all do.
