 OK, the hundred dollar pair of shoes that was beyond shoe wear from all the teeth and slobbers was pushed aside, the two hundred dollar camera that was up on a shelf, that Jeremiah leaped up to get and chewed up, had pictures of the Nationals in Tennessee,, of course in that camera, was ruin....... AND NOW,,, THIS IS THE WORSE! JEREMIAH CHEWED UP THE COMPUTER KEYBOARD!!!!!!! Boy I tell you, I came home and I just looked at him, his big brown eyes and his frown and wagging his tail no less,,,
All I could do, is,,,,,, cryyyyyyy!!!!! Why Jeremiah? Why? Why the computer? He just looked at me.. Do boxer just keep chewing eveything? I had to pick up my son from school, even gave him a new toy....... come home and the keyboard had lost some letters and slobbers, ewwweee,,, well just beyond repairs. Had to buy a new keyboard.
But it could be worse,,Right?
smashicon so now he is in Doggie Jail! And will get early parole on good behaivor before dinner time.
Just need to know when all this chewing is going to stop???
Thank You Kimmi

ouch!!! Our first boxer stopped destructive behavior at about 2 years. Several steps worked for us. Provide exercise time before being home alone and safe, interesting items to keep her busy IF there's any energy left. Limiting her access to shoes, laundry, etc. & keeping things picked up to an extreme. Reducing her roam area, a "safe" room with her bed, toys and food, period. Crating, which requires some patience, is also a wonderful way to come home to a happy boxer. I'm sure you'll figure it out and there will be lots of good advice from others here! Good Luck, you'll be through with the terrible two's before you know it!

Well, just wanted to tell you that you can get computer keyboards soooo cheap now! Some are $10 but some you can get for free with a rebate! :o Not sure if that helps, but at least it can be replaced. I think it's a gamble as to when the chewing and destruction will stop! One boxer we had chewed absolutely EVERYTHING in the house, but stopped the minute she was 2 years old. But when our Bingo was a pup, I am not kidding, he didn't chew ONE THING!!! nothing! :D :D I think something that helps is giving them appropriate toys, kongs or chewy toys to play with and the thing I found most helpful, was just wearing Bingo completely out before we went anywhere. We chased him around the yard, played ball with him, anything we could do to expend that irrepressable energy these guys have! Of all the suggested things to do, that is what helped us the most with Bingo. We even continue to do it just out of fairness if we will be gone for a few hours or something. We will take a walk or play ball in the yard so he won't be bored when we are gone. Just kinda feel like it's the least I can do for him when he's such a good boy!! So........be patient...someday you'll look back on this and laugh! :p

Brighid chewed until she was about 2. Until then she had to stay in a crate during the day. We couldn't even leave her alone in the house for 10 minutes and she would chew something up. Now she's an angel. She only chews on her toys, but she still goes in the crate during the day for her safety as much as for ours (she likes to chase the cat when we're not home).

I would suggest crate training. I have never had anything, but a 1.50 pair of house shoes eaten by my dogs. Now that they are no longer destructive, I leave one out everyday(locked in the dining room with baby gates), and no problems. Any dog left free to roam will get bored and find a way to pass the time. Good luck.

Creed is almost 12 weeks old and he loves the kids flip flops! He will have his bones, his toys, his basketball, the whole works and then comes the shoes. I always distract him with another toy when he's chewing away and hide it, but he always finds them! I do crate him during the day, for his safety and my sanity. He definately has the potential of being a little tasmanian devil, but so far I have kept that at bay.

Belle likes to rip the heads off my daughters barbie dolls.(Hey the dog has sense) She also likes ripping the dirty straw and droppings from the rabbit hutch when they've been put neatly in a bag ready for the binman to take.

Tess on the other hand has never ever been destructive. I don't think she thinks she's aboxer, more goody two shoes her!!angelicon angelicon As for advice, I was hoping for some myself!!!foundicon

Lacie is not a chewer and she is 2 years old. But i strongly urge you to think about crating your boxer while you are away. I think both your house, your sanity , and your boxer would be safer.

I have not had this problem as bad as you. When Olli was younger we tried to leave him in the house for maybe 20 min. by hisself and he tore up phone books and other things but never furniture or anything like you have said.. So from that day on he has been put outside tied to his dog box when we leave.
Maybe you should try getting him a crate if you want to keep him inside while your gone.
Godluck!

YOur baby will eventually stop chewing... but until then you have a very good option.

CRATE!!

It will help your relationship with your dog because you won't constantly be upset with him becuase of his destructive behavior.

Good luck, I'm sure it will get better! :)
