I am going to along with everyone else. CRATE. It will give you PEACE OF MIND.

We have both our boys crate trained and they are not aloud to free roam the house. We even kept Tobee crated at night untill he was a year old. If we are not home, they are in thier crates. When Tobee was a puppy, and before we realized how destructive boxers were, we let him out of his crate when we were not home. It was only for like two hours and I was more concerned about him not peeing in the house. BIG BIG MISTAKE. I can tell you, Tobee is house trained and did not pee in the house, but chewed a big hole in the living room carpet and couch.
Boy did we learn from that. Even when we are home he gets into stuff. Due to the cats, our house is really pet safe or at least we try to keep it that way. After a few chewed up pens and beautifull ink stains on the carpet, which by the way DO NOT COME OUT, top to bottom we TRY to keep things put away.
See the cats work with Tobee and knock things down he can't reach...

Hello everyone! I kind of know how you feel. Bailey has never been destructive. One day I had left $350.00 on the night stand and thought my boyfriend had picked it up and he thought I had picked it up. Needless to say he came home from work and the money was half eaten. I got a phone call from my boyfriend and he was VERY upset (it was his money). I told him he shouldn't have left it out for her to eat. I think it's similar to having children around. You wouldn't leave $350.00 sitting on the counter for a toddler to come and play with would you? Anyway, I'm sure your wondering if we got the money back and yes, it took her a couple of days but I got it. :D Boy am I glad that money doesn't desinegrate. I have learned my lesson and don't leave money laying around anymore!

Ink Stains

"After a few chewed up pens and beautifull ink stains on the carpet, which by the way DO NOT COME OUT, top to bottom we TRY to keep things put away."

I HAVE to comment on the ink stains. :D Jasmine is a year and two months old. I took a 10 minute shower one night and came out to a living room carpet covered in two HUGE stains. One black, one red. She had chewed up one of the black LIQUID ink pens and managed to chew a hole in the bottle of Nyquil. (Luckily she didn't eat any) Your right, the ink stain didn't come out and the Nyquil spot (that was all over the couch too) is still a light pink color. smashicon Hopefully at the two year mark she'll magically quit. I just wanted to let you know, I feel your pain.

I have a rescued boxer that is also an adult and we have gone through the same problems. Does your boxer chew when you are at home or does this happen when you are gone? Our boxer ended up having separation anxiety. We could not crate him because he would freak out even more. He actually busted out of a metal crate, causing injury to himself. Joe chew a hole in my couch, kitchen floor and actually ate through the dry wall! He also destroyed several large potted plants and any decoration that wasn't nailed down! We have had some success by following a program suggested for anxiety. We confine Joe to just two rooms...(he has to be able to look out out the front window) We cover the couch and the room is bare of any chewables. We have an array of toys available and also a large cardboard box. We also hide baggies of goodies around the two rooms, so that he has something to "hunt for". When we leave, we pay little attention to him so that he sees that we aren't anxious, hopefully that makes him more calm. When we return home, we do the same...even if Joe has found something to chew...we do not scold him..(wow is THAT hard!) We do not pay any attention to him for the first 5 minutes of our arrival. He has gotten progressively better. He always tears up the cardboard box but I expect it and it is easily cleaned up. He still has his days, but is much better! Hope this helps.

CRATE!

I don't know what I would do without the crate. We let our Leroy have free roam of the house only a couple of times - before we got the crate and it was disaster. The remote, the phone, my husbands good slippers - but we DID leave them out and in his reach. He loves to chew - but his favorites are the goodies the cat has shown him - a major reason in getting the crate. Leroy never noticed items were left on the table after we eat - ketchup, mustard, salad dressing, salt - the usual seasonings - the cat knocked a couple of these items on the floor one day and that was it. And as dogs do, these items were smeered all over the ONE carpeted room in the house.

But on a good note - Leroy does not protest to being put in his crate when we leave. He is quiet and good. :)
