Testing Recall

Well, I had the unfortunate (and freaky as Heck-o-la!) opportunity to test Adam's recall this morning. We were on our morning walk. Adam is still using the GL because he still insists on pulling like crazy. Well, he wasn't happy about the GL and was bouncing around, throwing his head, and pulling. The leash slipped off my wrist!!! Adam got about 20 feet in front of me. I stopped, croutched down and called him, "Adam come here boy!" He stopped, looked at me all puzzled like "how come your back there mommy!?" (add head tilt LOL) He came all wiggling back to me and gave me kisses.

OMG! I was freaking out!!! I have NEVER dropped either of their leashes before. I was freaking inside and trying to appear calm on the outside. I'm pretty sure Evie sensed my freaking out as she was standing on me :D I hope I never had to feel that way again. but, it is nice to know Adam will come! I also hope nobody has to feel that way any time soon!

Been there

Congradulations! I am so glad he responded.

I went through the same sort of thing about a month after we got Harley. I was connecting the tie out to her collar outside when she got away from me and took off! She ran to the front of the house and into the street. Oh my gosh, I thought my heart stopped. She came after some convincing calling, but it was a scare I hope to never experience again. Needless to say, the come command became the most important step in her training!

Amazing the way they can sense things!

Yay Adam! What a good boy! That same thing has happened with my puppy (1 year old) and it was such a great feeling when she came back to me rather than taking off. Moments like that make all of the time spent training seem really worth it! :)
